I get that it’s fast, but does it stop being a bicycle when a motor/engine is fitted. Surely it turns into a moped?

I remember looking in awe reading the Kay’s catalogue where you could buy a moped with pedals and an engine and then spotting a guy going to work to the bus depot on one. 😁

I think Guy Martin's effort was more impressive, at half the speed, BUT Guy was pedalling, and within about 3 or 4 inches of a steel plate on the back of a racing truck.

Still, quite incredible to watch.

As in the post title it's an observation on what some people will attempt and achieve. Impressive none the less IMO and amazing to watch. Basically he's just found a way to strap himself a rocket motor and keep it on the ground😄

I guess that rules out all E-bikes then? We'll have to call them just E from now on. 😄

EDIT- I’ve just looked at it again and the words pedal never appear - please accept this as a retraction of all the nonsense I just spouted 😳😀

Lol I was suitably impressed with the video, nuts to go that fast on skinny wheels, I’m guessing the rush is awesome, and Im not dismissing the achievement. 135/140mph was where my nerve went on a motor bike and then my mortality popped into my head 😬

As for E bikes, they’ve still go two wheels, so Electric Bike, I can live with that as the correct description of an electric powered bicycle,  pedal bicycle - pedal power. 🙊 Let’s not introduce three wheels into this mix 🤣😂

Mopeds are under 50cc... :getmecoat:

I'm amazed the wheels held together given that I've watched a LOT of similar looking wheels fall apart on the Red Bull Soap Box races... :o

Does that mean over 50cc becomes a scooter?

I love the soap box races and agree, they must have created a robust set of wheel for that speed.

if you look at the photos of his bike, it uses what look like bog standard pushbike QR hubs, rims, spokes and tyres! it even has a derailleur mechanism still attached.

How on earth that lot doesn't simply disintegrate I do not know...

Motorcycle. I don't think there is a "scooter" taxation class (but I haven't looked so cue someone else to chime in and make me look a chump... agian...), it's a coloquialism, like "hoover"...

Fastest i've done is 48mph, down hill............ On a hybrid with slick road tyres, In a 40 limit, it was great until some burke in an Audi overtook me just to prove a point, immediately got stuck in traffic (which was visible before he decided to overtake) and then cut into the kerb to stop me passing. Bicycles don't stop as quickly as cars and braking hard whilst turning is a good way to end up sliding down the road on your face, so that was pretty hairy.

After this I bought a gravel hybrid, which won't go over 30, and a pair of decent kevlar knuckled gloves.
