Terry Everall Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 I have had enough of BBQing with charcoal as the heat varies from a furnace to no heat at all without warning and all charcoal is different so any recommendations for a gas BBQ of reasonable size (4-6 people ) Quote
Jim RS Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 I bought some time ago 2 Weber Q smaller units and they work very well using only 1 for up to 4 people and have entertained 30 peeps with the 2 just about coping. Probably about 10 years old now and still going strong. I can't recommend them highly enough and I probably sound like a Weber salesperson in that they are small enough to be easily transported(picnic style) large enough to work effectively and long lived(even with being outside all year, uncovered and used 4 to 7 times a week even during winter). Outer casing is ally, grill is cast iron and burner is Stainless steel so absolutely best combination. A little pricey but worth it over life. I run mine on propane and butane with proper adaption and little cannisters when away from home. When I bought mine they only had 1 size now there are larger ones available and I made my own stand out of the old defunct barby. Not the prettiest on the block but certainly the best. Quote
DamperMan Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Like everything you get pretty much what you pay for... I’ve had a few B&q specials and although they have worked ok after a few years they don’t like life in a damp shed and fall apart. We have a small Cadac in the camper and it is excellent. Even the lid can be flipped and used as a wock. Then bought a big Cadac something! For home But, sold it as basically it was just a big burner with a hot plate, not really a bbq and didn’t add taste. You need something with a vaporiser grill to burn off the fats to get the best taste. Since there is just 4 of us I bought a medium sized WeberQ 1200 as mentioned above. One of the good features is the Griddles go in the dish washer and it’s small enough to store for the 360 days it’s not used. With the temperature gauge it’s good to know if you are cooking the chicken or simply making it crunchy on the outside raw in the middle. if I was looking to entertain I’d go for a Weber spirit.. 2 or 3 burner. dombanks Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 I bought a 4 burner bbq from argos at the beginning of lockdown last year. main reason was speed of delivery and they had one. It was cheap @~£100. I cant really fault it tbh but for sure you can tell its "cheap". Id like the next one i get to have lava rocks rather than the metal plates that radiate the heat but i think this may just be a reflection of its quality which ill accept is medium. I found the little side burner thing to be a waste of gas on both mine and another one (much more expensive) ive used and tbh if you wanted this facility just buy a camping stove. Also (and this is just me I think) it took me a while to get used to cooking with it. Manly it was around the fact that with mine you're supposed to keep the lid down much more than I expected. Quote
SXRORY Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Being an avid bqq'er I would always advocate a weber but the reality is they are not cheap. Wow BBQ have always been the cheapest for all weber stuff for me. However before you chuck away the charcoal you could try the below ( and forgive me if im teaching you to suck eggs). I always use briqquettes these give the most consisent burn and keep the heat the longest and you dont need as much. The BBQ should be giving decent heat for an hour at least. Avoid light in the bag stuff at all costs its just a real fierce intense heat for not very long. Get a chimney starter to get the briqquettes going. You then just tip them out in the bbq My last tip is the lid on your bbq. Always cook with a lid on with the vents open. Once you tip the coals out put lid on for 10 minutes then your coals will settle down. Only taking it off to turn its then like an oven. The heat will last longer and its consistent heat, and my mantra is if your looking it aint cooking. I cook on it all year round heres my xmas turkey on the rotis Good luck with whatever you do....Im really temped by gas too but not gone to the dark just side yet Quote
CraigHew Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 We have a cadac for the caravan which is superb but for home use we have an Outback combi. As suggested, the left hand side uses charcoal the right hand side has 4 burner gas. It's a great bit of kit. we cook shrimp, eggs bacon etc on the hotplate, can heat pans on the gas if needed and regular bbq fare meat / fish on the gas or coal depending upon the mood. Best of both worlds really as I could never quite go all-in for gas in the garden..... Apologies for the poor quality stock image.... Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Thanks guys I have decided to buy a cheap £125 BBQ 4 burner from Argos to see if I like it. I already have gas bottle so I will see how it performs Quote
Kingster Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Just picked this up: I was going to order an identical one online for £250 then spotted a google image linking to Morrison’s (supermarket) where they are £150. Enamelled and cast iron griddle plates. the quality is streets ahead of the one I got off B&Q or Argos two years ago that now looks like this!! these pics are AFTER it was scrubbed clean and bits put through dishwasher. As a bbq it did actually work well - but not impressed with the lifespan. Quote
Paul Gibney - Lancashire AO Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Chris you got a link for this cannot find on Morrisons web site.. for £150 looks a steal..... did you ? Quote

It’s not on their website. You need to go into a store and have look. I found a Facebook post purely by chance (as I hate Facebook!) but it’s an absolute bargain! Quote
Paul Gibney - Lancashire AO Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Thank's for the heads up picked up mine today.. Quote
islabethany71 Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 It's not listed on their website. You should walk into a store and look around. I came upon a Facebook post just by coincidence (I despise Facebook!) However, it is still an incredible steal! Quote
