Richard (OldStager)
Ok, well it seems I am being dragged into the 21st century whether I like it or not, so Can you please tell me which 'smart' phone I should buy. I know absolutely nothing about these and am relying on views posted by the kind folks here. Budget, having seen a few current prices is around £250 max, I also don't want a contract so will be needing a PAYG service. I can't see me using a mobile as most folks would, for me it's an emergency phone when out in the car and a decent camera would be handy. I have a fairly high spec PC here that I use for all other things other than voice or camera related stuff. Your views and opinions gratefully received. Richard. Andrew O Byrne White - Ireland AO
For value with a decent camera, I don't think you can beat the Huawei/Honor offerings, but get a slightly older model like a P30 lite which still has Google support unless you're comfortable adding that stuff manually. Pair that with a nice, cheap giffgaff sim and it should tick those boxes nicely. Edit to add - also have the optional benefit of dual sim. Great for touring where you can pick up a local/travel friendly sim card for Internet access etc., but still keep your UK sim active without paying big roaming charges. 2
Andrew Shenton
I've always had Android. I've just purchased a Xiaomi (pronounced Sony) Mi 10T Lite for £213:00. 5G, 4 cameras, 64 GB, Dual Sim, I am really impressed with it. I googles "best priced good phone" and it came top out of 10 on 2 comparison sites.

Ok thanks, I'll start a list of what gets suggested and then look at those first, I keep seeing this giffgaff word and wondered what it was ... Stuart
New Nokias are pretty good too. PAYG getting harder though prices all been hiked recently. Lebara have some very cheap sim only monthly contract deals through MSE just now. Edited to add that you can buy a new sim free Nokia 7.1 on eBay for £99. That's what I have and it's a good phone
geoffd
I've recently changed to a Motorola G9 Play (Mrs D now has my old G6). It seems to work well and is reasonable value from GiffGaff - I have one of their pay as you go SIMs.

Blatman
I rarely buy new phones. My current phone, purchased 2 years ago is a Google Pixel 1. If I was buying now a Google Pixel 3 or 4. My brother has a Pixel 3 XL and I used to have a Pixel 2 XL for work and they have all been absolutely brilliant in every way.
Richard (OldStager)
Thanks Blatters, and this is something perhaps I should have said in my first post, if anyone is thinking of an upgrade in the coming months, do give me a shout. Makes more sense as far as I see it to get an older model.
Richard (OldStager)
Following a PM conversation, it looks like I am sorted now. They just have to order the new one before I get it.
