Steve (sdh2903)
I've seen a fair few electrical bodges in my time playing with cars. Scotchlocks, twisted together wires etc. However today I've seen a whole new level. This is the connector to an electric water pump on a 6 series bmw. Yes that is a wood screw with the blue ecu signal cable wrapped around it and then into a corroded up choc block. The heavy gauge battery positive has a large section with bare conductor strands and the earth was clinging on for dear life who would ever actually think that's a good solution! The mind boggles. 2

Nope thankfully. Even the worst of cone heads would have at least put insulation tape over the live 1

Steve (sdh2903)
Although just to quantify I've only had it a few days. I wouldn't have even had the imagination for that 'fix'

That was my task for the day. Surprisingly not much else found apart from some single use sump bolts that have clearly been reused and are now weeping. Lyonspride
It's the sort of thing which is becoming increasingly common as manufacturers make connectors which break and cannot be bought/replaced very easily. Like the connectors for the headlights on my Mondeo, there's a clip, but it's hidden under a plastic shield and I've broken both LH and RH on my car, no more clip, I tried to learn from the first one I broke, but to no avail, I just couldn't see any way of lifting the clip without breaking the connector or making a special tool, and so on the 2nd one I cut the plastic shield away so that I could get in with a small screwdriver. It shouldn't be necessary to break things in order to carry out something as simple as changing a light bulb.
