Any pond / fish experts on here?

We have moved to a new house and inherited a pond and some fish.  It is not something we want to keep, but obviously want the fish to remain living.  Are there any suggestions on how to pass the fish to someone who wants them?  We are in Chepstow.

 

There are some 2ft plus Koi plus random goldfish.

Had exactly the same thing at my house some years ago. Advertised the fish on Gumtree or Craigs List and a guy came round and took them.

Large koi can be quite valuable I believe. We inherited a pond in 2012 in the same way...

Have a look on here, there are plenty of people who will re-home them for free if you are in a rush but you may have some fish of value.

I keep tropical fish but not really had that much to do with koi but know some can fetch a lot of money.

Have you got a local fish place at a garden centre ? They sometimes take fish that people dont want.

Thank you all for your posts, I had not considered they could be worth something.  I will have a browse to see if they are, and balance off convivence versus cash.

I had some very similar looking fish in my pond and they were not genuine Koi. I think they were Goldfish (not always gold...)  Chubunkins, and possibly Comets, but I'm dredging back 24 years... They weren't worth anything and we let ours go for free as we were happy that they were going to a good home. We didn't have the time or knowledge to look after them despite expending significant time, effort and cash in trying.

We've taken on fish from people in the past, but didn't pay for them.  We took the view that we were doing these people a favour, we had to catch the fish too!  That involved draining the ponds.  There was no guarantee that the fish were healthy - they could have had a disease which could have been passed on to our fish.  If you buy from a garden centre or fish specialist, you hope to have some comeback if there's a problem.  So even if your fish are 2 ft koi, it may be difficult to sell them.  If you can find a good home for them, I would say that's a result.

I am not concerned about the money, more the giving them away and then the fish being sold on.  I should stop being principled and get them on their way.

I dodn't think anyone was suggesting otherwise and if that's how you took my comments then I apologise. I was more commenting on the similarities some fish have to actual Koi which are valuable. But obviosuly I phrased it badly...
