Important, personal details in posts.

The topic has come up several times recently, “back of house”; PLEASE, PLEASE, be aware that if you post personal details, whether it be phone numbers, email addresses or whatever, in the open, publicly viewable areas of the forum, which is most of it, sales sections, too, along with blogs and photo galleries, then these details are both visible to THE ENTIRE INTERNET, and they will be searched, indexed and archived by Google etc. And will subsequently appear in Google and any other search engine, searches.

 

Even if the details are subsequently removed or edited, there are lots of resources out there such as the way back pages, that WILL have cached a copy, and no matter what we as a club do, we can never get all of that data back for you.

 

If you need to exchange personal information, with other members, such as to buy or sell a part, or to meet up, please for the love of god, use the PM system, it’s what it’s there for! Information shared by PM does not get indexed by third parties and will not appear randomly on the web for ever after.

 

If you have to put contact info on a post, use public domain info, that you are not concerned about, but be aware it WILL be indexed by the world at large, and if your display name or post content identify you, will make a tenuous link back to you.

Oh, and don’t worry about the address and contact information you enter in your profile on the forum, this information is only visible to the admin team, and is ONLY used by the Club, for the administration of the Club, including sending out things like the magazine, membership packs, calendars etc.

 

So, 

 

General forums areas, blogs and photo albums - viewable by whole world, searched and archived by search engines etc the world over.

 

Members Only forum - viewable by WSCC paid up Club Members only.

 

Members Profile information - your own information is only visible to you and the current WSCC admin team.

 

PM’s - viewable by the sender and receiver(s), who must all be paid up WSCC members. 

 

Just to reassure you though, the Committee, (admins), take their duty of care with all our data VERY seriously, access to the back-office side of things via the forum Control Panel, is logged.
