Wtd: SEiW tunnel carpet

As per title, looking for the tunnel carpet for a ZK SEiW (if that makes any difference) with Zetec/Type 9 setup.

Condition unimportant, as I’m going to use it as a template for something different - so preferably “cheap cheap” like the bird!

Ideally Essex area, otherwise will need posting....

Bodywork style makes no difference, but the transmission tunnel design does. Westfield makes chassis with a number of different tunnel widths, and each one had a slightly different carpet design to cope with the width.

The tricky bit, is generally, the two most common tunnel sizes are known by the gearbox they were designed to accommodate, BUT, it doesn’t actually guaranteee that’s the gearbox fitted!

So the narrowest tunnel is known as the Type 9, and was for the early four speed and later Type 9 5 speed gearbox cars. Then comes the MT75 tunnel car, designed for the slightly bigger gearbox. The problem is, many people, including the factory, fit Type 9 boxes into MT75 tunnel cars! You’ve then got a couple of even bigger tunnel sizes for the V8 cars and the Mega S2000, which is the biggest.

If you are looking for a template why don’t you do like I did, make one out of cardboard costs you nothing.

This was my approach as I wanted a saddle stitched black vinyl tunnel cover, worked brilliantly 👍

Carpet will always flex so is a moving target,

^  This is exactly what I was planning to do!  Have you got any pics of yours?

Was going to use carpet as a template, but guess you’re right in that cereal box template will probably be more accurate overall.

Sorry no, did mine some 10 years ago.

Covered the tunnel and rear bulkhead with a vert thing layer of foam, then had the tunnel cover made in 3 sections of vinyl saddle stitched at the seams.

Way better than carpet as it doesn’t get soggy and hard to dry out.

I was planning on going for a flat leather-type cover over the ali panels, stitched with a thin layer of foam underneath the elbow area to provide a touch of comfort!  Don’t really fancy the raised profile found on Cater**m.

Should also help with radius edges of the tunnel when it comes to IVA time....

I used a leatherette material for the outside seating on my narrowboat. Was fairly easy to work with. Looks good and is wearing well. It’s what I’ll do when my carpets need changing. Didn’t use any stitching though. Do you need stitching over the tunnel?
