steve wilson Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 Not sure if this has already been mentioned (cant find nowt). The idiots that make the rules have moved the goal posts on emissions. It states that any car sva'd or registered after 1 aug 1998 on a current (new) plate is now subject to cat level emissions testing at MOT. This does now include amateur build. Q plates are not included in this because they are not S or newer despite having engines that are post 95 and being tested at cat level emissions at sva. Written proof that the engine is pre 95 gets you into 3.5% co2 and 1200ppm HCO test too. No more visible smoke tests. You can read all about this on the bec site. Quote
brianm Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 So there is still an advantage in the old Q plate after all There has to be a plus side after being asigned the same code as a no identity, ex-written off escort/calibra. Brian Quote
JonnyBoy Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 I dont think a Q prefix is frowned upon by many people in the know about our kind of car...and those that dont know....can FRO Quote
CateringVan Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 There was an announcement from Caterhum over on blatchat a few months ago which said much the same thing. They are obviously widening the net to cover all cars which went through SVA. Its particularly difficult for people with kit-built, post-SVA cars who relied on the 'visible smoke test rule' and have tuned their engines to the point where they become difficult to get through an emissions test even with a catalyst.
