Steve (sdh2903)
Omg that was probably the worst accident I've seen where the driver has walked away. Lucky lucky fella. Superb work from the Marshalls and medical crew. Looks like the (much criticised) halo has just saved romain's life.
Quinten
I'm still gobsmacked he was able to walk away from that. Dread to think what could have happened if he'd lost consciousness. I hope he's able to recover from this, knowing how he has suffered mentally in the past.
Stuart
Those halos must be amazingly strong to bust though an armco barrier. Saved his life no doubt
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO
I honestly think that without the halo we would be mourning Grojean now, he is a very lucky boy.
jeff oakley
Very lucky but watching it I am not sure why that Armco was stuck out like that in the first place. Hell of an impact to split the car the way it did but shows the safety cell did the job as designed
Greenstreak-Andy D
Holly C5ap... very lucky https://www.formula1.com/en/video/2020/11/2020_Bahrain_Grand_Prix__Grosjean_escapes_huge_crash_and_fire_at_race_start.html
Captain Colonial
One of the most horrific F1 crashes I’ve ever seen. Without HALO, HANS, CF and fire resistant clothing, we’d be in mourning right now. Never seen Armco breached like that. It nearly made me physically sick when I saw that. This is going to be one hell of inquiry as to why the fuel cell ruptured and why it took so long to get the flames out though. A very fortunate young man who should buy a lottery ticket. HALO saves another life - I hated the way it looks when it first came out, now I can’t imagine F1 racing without it.

Lucky lucky man though.. had he been rendered unconscious, and I'm amazed he wasn't, it could have had a different and sadder ending. Michael Whitworth
Yes I was watching it too, I was shocked when I realised the front of the car with the driver had pierced a hole though the armco and was in flames. My first thought when I saw the car was split in half was where had it thrown the driver! Very lucky to walk away, I would say sadly he has Jules Bianci to thank for that. corsechris
Really surprised to see armco in a location like that without techpro (sp?) or at least a tyre wall & conveyor belt on the track face.

fil46
That was heart stoping for sure , to see him scrabbling to get out of the flames was hard to watch, I was glad to see him leap clear it was a miracle. The halo has proved its self for sure get well soon roman I have had two race cars go on fire not big fires but still fire and it gets the heart pumping I tell you lucky I was close to the orange army and not much damage, on both occasions A foam fire extinguisher is fitted in my passenger foot well Just in case . And now when doing track days I wear my full race gear, I may look a bit ott for a track day but but better to be safe

A stunning tribute to the engineers who design and build these and sadly as mentioned, all those that have passed away in accidents to force improvements. Also look forward to the investigation report... Yep, I think this has now made my mind up for my next upgrade - me! Time for a proper set of shoes, gloves, suit and balaclava me thinks! They may never get used in anger against fire but I think I'll be happy with that investment/insurance.
fil46
Here is my on board footage the fire is at the end of the clip, I saw the flames it was kill switch fire pull with one and harness with the other and out of there , could not of happened in a better place orange army everywhere with fire extinguishers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0TI1YP3FO4 Injector O ring was the cause of the fire , only some wire damage the car was broken up and sold, not sure I have footage of the westy fire , I was out testing and a oil pipe burst off the dry sump pump spraying on to the exhaust , pulled in up the main straight at knockhill across from the tower, hit the kill switch then the fire pull handbrake this time and was out sharp, this time the orange army was a jog away the oil was still burning with fibre glass popping it was not good. I ran to meet the man grabbed the second fire extinguisher he was carrying and put it out my self , it melted some wires but after a patch up and new hose and a borrowed fire extinguisher I still raced on sunday.
