ARP con-rod bolts

I think Arnie got supplied reticular tin main bearings, instead of Lead Indium, and they failed, quite quickly........

Is that the incident that followed on from "installing steel wool to the dry sump pan which then got ingested into the workings of the oil pump".  :p

Stabs knife into back then turns it :D  :p  ;)    :arse:

Can you read all about it somewhere then? :D  :p

Where? I'd be interested if there is another side to the story........

Indeed you can, usually on Blatchat during one of Arnie's periodic rants when someone constructs a sentence which features little groups of three letters (you can take your pick, there are two he likes to focus on... ;) ).   Upon reading those three letters he goes off on a tirade about why you shouldn't use X or Y and that if you want quality then you should only ever use Swindon, blah, blah, blah....

I've heard the original story repeated several times and also heard part of it from the horses mouth (not Arnie's I hasten to add) but I'd not seen mention of wire wool being put in the sump before.

As with most stories from people who have been "wronged", I tend to take them with a large pinch of salt since it's not unusual for them to miss out key facts, like the fact that they don't seem able to build a reliable engine for love nor money...

I do understand that there are two sides to every story. However, it's the first time I've heard of there being a credible "other side" to the tin bearing story........I guess I need to search Blatchat......unless some-one would like to point me the way.......

Afternoon Nick, BTW..  :)

Hold on, hold on !!

I think we're getting confused here (me more than likely    )

I *thought* Windy's reference to the wire wool getting injested into the oil pump was in relation to Arnie's other (earlier) oil related "issue".  Did the crap bearings from Y cause a major engine failure or did he just run a bearing resulting in another rebuild ?

You're right. read the "followed on" comment, but my Ruddles addled brain chose to ignore it......

Still haven't heard about the wire wool though..........

Neither had I, hence my comment up there somewhere :)

Ahhh...as Windy says, there's a very long story here, dating back to when I first got to know Steve B, circa 1995, and I don't want to be the one answering a libel suit, but lets just say that Steve has a very good reputation for "knowing his onions".....very rarely (if ever, to best of my knowledge) will any of his kit fail due to inappropriate design. And lets also just say that Scotchbrite (get it right Mr Millar  :D  ) does NOT make a good "improptu" substitute for the filters fitted inside the dry-sump pan, as supplied by Steve....but as I said, long-story, that's only a minute amount.

To answer your question Gra', no, THAT little episode happened years ago...sounds like he's still having probs and blaming everyone else?  ???

I certainly wouldn't be openly criticising ANY company such as SBD or QED on a website, if I were a certain person
