Burgerbob
Hi All I had my MOT this morning and passed with flying colours (I always find the experience slightly nerve racking...) Although was slightly amused as I stuck a front number plate on especially for the occasion, only to be asked by the garage if they could remove it as they couldn't get the car on the brake testing rollers. I asked the garage if they could give the car a once over and also have a look at the sticky first and second gears. They reckon (as I also suspect) that the sticky gears are due to the clutch which they said was on the way out. Not being a job I'd do myself I asked for a price and they suggested that I find a more specialist motorsport garage to do the job. Can anyone recommend a garage somewhere not a million miles from Derby that would do a good job? Car is a 1.8 Zetec with an MT75 gearbox. It runs about 160bhp now but I'd like a clutch to be able to cope with a little more should I tune it further. Car is mainly a road car so a racing clutch may not be best suited. Alternatively, is it a straightforward job, i.e. can I source the parts and get a non-specialist place to fit? I presume Westfield can supply the right kit. Many thanks
Rob Hunter - Club Secretary
Hi, been looking into similar myself in the area (just in case something I can't fix drops off the car 😂). Toybox use Forge Garage in Lullington for all their MOT's etc and they have a few Westfields on the Facebook photos. We also have Fearns Garage in Albert Village that advertise IVA prep on kit cars so you'd think they know their way around a Westfield? I've also been told there's one in Langley Mill (automotive solutions?) but not 100% sure on that one
Burgerbob
Thanks Rob, really helpful. I'd actually also just stumbled on automotive solutions. http://automotivesolutionsandracing.com I'm in no hurry as car drives ok for now, so will do a little research on all these.
Trevor Little (Trevturtle) - Treasurer
I'd check the clutch adjustment first, it may be a simple adjustment fix if its a cable clutch. You are welcome to visit me and I can check it for you. No need for a specialist garage, try Hawkins and shepherd near the train station in Derby. The Owner (Fred] has worked on Westfields before and is used to working on non standard cars. The only non standard clutch part is sometimesthe release bearing.. otherwise its standard Ford equipment. Give me a call if you want to talk through it.. I had my mt75 gearbox out 5 times. Burgerbob
Thanks Trevor. That garage is well placed, close enough to get a lift home from the misses without being moaned at, I could even get the bus (although it was 10 years ago when I last tried that and I found it very confusing....) The car's got a hydraulic clutch but I would appreciate a 2nd opinion before taking it to a garage. Its not that bad, just the gears (especially 1st + 2nd) are nowhere near are slick as I'd like and at times you have to force it a bit. will give you a shout. Cheers
