F1 today and tyres.

Will the race be a lottery?

 

After last weekend's tyre failures with the hardest tyre C1 we now have softer tyres for this weekend using C2, C3 and C4.

 

Must mean more pit stops for tyres and possibly more conservative driving to avoid tyre failure.

 

I would prefer flat-out racing without having to massively manage the tyres.

 

Next weekend it's the Spanish GP which is usually in May and I wonder what the August heat will do to the tyres. Possibly different options will be available for Spain.

 

Here's hoping for a great race.

Looks like Pirelli have specified minimum tyre pressures for this race. Up 2 psi from last weekend.

A seemingly simple desire that those of us who enjoy motorsport can all get behind. But in the case of F1, with all it's vested interests, will never happen.

My favourite example of not-racing racing is aero. We all know that in F1 aero is king. It makes the cars look like they do and gives drivers and commentators something to say to "enliven" proceedings when they get excited about how difficult it is to follow close in the dirty air blah blah blah... BUT... EVERY driver, engineer and team plans for the entire season is to try to put their car in clear air as quickly and as often as possible. So how will we ever have flat out, close racing if EVERY team is looking for 200 yards space between them and their competitors before the race, the season has even started. Close racing is bad for the cars performance...

I would have thought that a low total area of bodywork/wings + 3 forward facing holes for air inlet and rads could encourage some more radical thinking. The complexity of the front wings and the mirrors/air inlets on each side is just ridiculous and irrelevant!
