Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted June 25, 2020 Author Posted June 25, 2020 On the FB page a councillor says nothing has been decided - today. I interpret it as meaning that the pedestrianisation (temporary) will remain in place indefinitely but not necessarily permanently. We can only hope and whip up as much support for the petition as possible. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 28, 2020 Author Posted August 28, 2020 According to the Brighton Argus the now-dominant Greens are to ban all motor events permanently. Quote
jeff oakley Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Unfortunately every institution is being taken over by small interest groups that have their own agenda and do not care about history or those whose jobs are at risk due to their policies. Look at London, it is dying as office workers now have a choice not to use rip off public transport that is liable to strikes and fare rises. Against a backdrop of job losses Khan has taken the opportunity to increase the congestion charge, decrease the capacity of public transport, arbitrarily close roads to put more cycle paths in and then has the brass neck to say it is the governments fault. When Bristol announced their plans to impose work place parking charges, the Mayor of Newport wrote to employers and said relocate here, with Welsh government assistance as we will never do that here. Bristol quickly dropped that plan but even now on the back of extinction rebellion planning this weekend to cripple transport around the UK once again they are demanding that Bristol changes even more. Offices already empty and out of town areas thriving, yet the councillors ignore that. We get what we deserve as many of the councillors of my acquaintance would never survive in the normal business world, yet thrive in the environment of spending other people's money with no regard for value or the future of the area they represent so long as they can tick all the boxes and appease the shouty groups who are a minority yet get all the air time and media they want. That statement from the Green councillor is almost chilling, that the thousands of people who visit Brighton for such events are worthless to them because they like cars, nothing else and to compare cars to a war that lasted 100 years would be funny if they were not in charge and had control of the future. If the public in Brighton continue to vote for these crackpots they deserve their city to fall into an economic cesspit which they will the Greens will blame everyone else for. Sadly they are not alone as so many people now on councils are similarly leaning to hating everything they do not agree with and implementing change with no thought of consequences. Quote
