DonPeffers
Today at 15.43 hrs on BBC news channel I saw people disembarking a red London bus at Stratford, East London and counted 38 getting off at one stop and 15 of those were wearing face masks. I am unsure of the bus passenger capacity but it seemed likely that social distancing was impossible in that situation. Might be best if there was a stated maximum number of passengers per bus but then I suppose you would need a conductor (remember those and jumping off at a slow corner from bus with no locking door?). Conductor could count the passengers entering the bus at the middle door. I guess tube trains were fairly full too.
Arm
I'm glad I'm not there using public transport. I dont know what they are going to do. Perverse as last 20 yrs has been a push to get on the tubes and buses. Is the congestion charge still in place in London?
Blatman
16 hours ago, Arm said: Is the congestion charge still in place in London? Yup. That ain't going anywhere. On top of that we now also have the ULEZ (Ultra-Low Emission Zone) which applies to vehicles that don't met Euro 4 for petrol or Euro 6 for diesel. In other words if you have a non-compliant vehicle it's 24 quid to enter central London, £12.50 for ULEZ and £11.50 for congestion charge. Add in parking costs and a "simple" drive into "the zone" can easily cost 50 quid. ULEZ is a 24/7 - 365 charge. Congestion charge is Monday to Friday 07.00 to 18.00 The ULEZ is extended next year to the boundary created by the North and South Circular roads so if anyone is planning a drive to the smoke to see the sights, be prepared The ULEZ also applies to motorcycles but congestion charges don't. Thankfully for me, I never use public transport and my bike is compliant, not that I'd take a car in to town anyway...

Not sure why congestion charge or ULEZ would be, on the assumption that those currently paying them are going to work as they always have done... Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Given the amount of money going out from central and local government coffers, charges are only likely to go up, where it’s felt they can be.
Arm
I was assuming those now driving in due to the bus and train issues were now getting stung on congestion charges.

Not sure I can see that either way. What would be the venn diagram for people who work inside the zone who are now released to work who didn't drive before and who now are? And there is plenty of scope for people to drive close to the zone then park and walk, cycle with a bike they brought with them or grab a Boris bike or an Uber to get them the last few of miles or so, all of which would likely be cheaper than driving and parking inside the zone... It was suspended on March 23rd when we went in to lockdown. Bus fares were suspended as well when TFL introduced centre door entry and exit to keep drivers safe. Congestion charge is being re-instated on Monday and is increasing from £11.50 to £15.00 on June 22. Under the new rules the C charge will change from 07.00 to 18.00 Monday to friday to 07.00 to 22.00 seven days a week. I was not a fan of the current mayor. He's now properly in the book... Steve (sdh2903)
So they want you to use your cars to prevent crowding on public transport. Then they close lanes off for cyclists and pedestrians. Then they not only reinstate the congestion charge but hike it by over 30%? Does anyone in government actually talk to each other?
Arm
That was my point. Doesn't sit quite right. Blatters you wrong ? Never thought that would happen.
