Is it possible to connect a patio gas cylinder (lpg) from a bbq to a standard camping stove? Been looking in camping sites etc but nothing seems quite right but tbh I wouldn’t know what I’m looking at.

we have a gas-lo system on our touring carvan. Basically its a pair of gas bottles inside the front locker, fed by an input (screw on filler cap) on the nearside caravan panel.

When I need LPG I head for the nearest garage with an LPG pump and fill up.

We use the gas in our caravan oven / hob but it also feeds the external BBQ point to which we plug in a Cadac BBQ.

So, although there are slight differences between propane and butane ( propane boils at -42 so works well at lower outdoor temperatures, whereas butane boils at -2 so isn't so good in caravans in the winter so is best used indoors on small appliances.  )  they're both classed as LPG.

So, yes LPG can fuel your camping stove.

There are 3 basic bottle gases available Butane, Propane and a mix of the 2 often referred too as Liesure gas. Butane produces the lowest heat and at the lowest pressure therefore the hose used is often of a bigger diameter and different pressure rating and is ok with good manual clamping systems also it uses fixed rating regulators to provide even flow rates of gas. Propane being higher pressure usually uses smaller diameter tubing but better rating and the regulators vary greatly in their delivery(some are adjustable), also the hose connections are crimped and usually gas fitting type with left hand threads.

Any of the gasses can be used but when changing you need to take account of operating pressure requirement and supply, also the possibility of jet size to provide a proper pattern of flame.

Bottled gas can be extremely dangerous if fitted incorrectly and you must follow the specifications provided by the appliance manufacturers, these will advise what gas, pressure and jetting are required and must be adhered too. I used to operate lots of hire equipment of varying types and the different fixture/fittings are mind blowing, if you're in any doubt let an expert sort it out and a good hirer would be a reasonable option.

cheers. This is definitely propane (as is the bbq regulator) the guy at the chandlers I got it from was quite specific to tell me but I guess a narrow boat is the same requirement as a caravan.

I would have thought that somewhere like go outdoors or a caravan/boat place will know so will just have to wait till I can go to one.
