RIP Sir Stirling Moss, a great ambassador and a gentleman

We seem to have 2 threads going at once on this subject! But I agree with all the sentiments.

How terribly sad, he’s looked frail for some time now. A great loss to the sport as well as his friends and family.

Another hero lost, such a great man.

He was my hero when I was growing up, watched him driving a Mercedes-Benz at Aintree in the late fifty's and then again in 1980 driving for Audi with a young Martin Brundle as his team mate. A true gentleman who always had time to chat to the race fans.

Jeff my photo above was taken on the same day, that's a young Martin Brundle stood next to Stirling.

A true legend. At a very early Goodwood FOS I went to the gents and in came Sir Stirling and John Surtees chatting away, one stood either side of me. After we had all finished I struck up a conversation with the two of them. Both were warm and happy to chat and probably if he had not been found by one of the people guiding him that day it felt like he would have carried on all day.

And the strange thing no one interrupted or tried to get a picture it seem so normal that no one was surprised.

He was never the same after his unfortunate accident with the lift shaft at his home but he has had a long illness. He lived life to the full of that there is no doubt.

On Youtube Mercedes have posted a lovely tribute to him
