Dash, re-advertised: carbon fibre with switches *SOLD*

Carbon fibre dash (wide body) re-advertised. My thanks to the helpful comments made by WSCC members!

Although can't be 100% certain without physically seeing the item, this has been independently verified from photos supplied as most likely to be 'real' carbon fibre top layer, not GRP/plastic and not wet-laid, where the weave alignment looks good on the surface and the carbon extends all the way around the return, which is a positive indicator of good quality. That's as close as I can get to re-assure potential buyers that this is genuine and all info is given in good faith.

As stated, includes rubber trim and edging profile, plus various switches as shown

Hi Chris….er, I don't know!

I picked it up in the auto-jumble at Stoneleigh a few years ago (and you sent me the analogue switches for converting back to gauges from a Dash 2….but I sold the car before I had time to make the change!) There is definitely a matted weave texture to the reverse…so guess it could be? How do you tell??

Hi again Chris…I've dropped an email to the guys at Carbon NV asking if they might be able to clarify, but obviously with the current lockdown I don't know if they're still open. It seems to me the clue is in the type of material used. It definitely doesn't look like GRP fibre matting. I'll get another photo of a close up.

Anyone else out there got an opinion?!

I’d say that is proper CF, not fake

 

there are several ways to tell, but the back of the dash gives it away for me, as does the actual weave pattern - it’s clearly a proper weave, not just a print

It does look much more like proper carbon fibre to me. If you look at the cross section where it’s been cut, you may just be able to see the very fine edges of the carbon strands that tie up with the pattern from the front.
