'If the hammer isn't big enough, use a bigger one' love it 😆

I worked it a old boy like that  he used to say " I can do more with my hammer  than you can do with your entire  toolbox  Gunga Din".... we were  forever  going  along  behind him and putting things  right

The good old saying:

If in doubt give it a clout.

No wonder I specialised in demolition🥳

An old colleague of mine used to refer to a hammer as a Manchester screwdriver!

Can’t beat a good bit of percussive maintenance in the right circumstances.

There was a Fiat Uno used parts specialist in a back street of Reading a few years ago. I watched this Polish bloke remove the hub nut complete with engaged tab washer from a driveshaft using only a cold chisel and a hammer. The killer was, though, that the drive shaft was lying on the ground at the time and he held it between his knees! I had struggled to undo the hub nut on my son's Uno with the shaft still on the car and supported by the strut, with the tab washer released, and with a properly fitting socket. The 1/2" drive square had a helical form afterwards - that mf was TIGHT!

A true craftsman, he did all that work and never even knocked the fag ash of the end of his ciggy.

That had me howling with laughter. I never had an engine crane when I was doing jobs on the side and used the rope method to lift engines out of many cars and refit.

I was as described a burly chap, the young kids part was played by my then girlfriend (now my wife)

I think quite a few of us “of a certain age” have done that trick at some point lol

Reminds me of helping my Dad change the engine in my moms Hillman Avenger!

I was aged about 7, lay under the car trying to line up the clutch splines while he was hurling "encouragement" at me from above smoking one of many Players Number 6! Happy times!  😂😂
