Fuel tank capacity.

My tanks is approximately 40 litres = 8.8 gallons.

Is that about right for a standard tank ?

No. 😂 

 

Standard ZK tanks, and the later style bigger FW tanks are more like 28 liters.

 

There is a long range ZK style tank though, I can’t remember the capacity off the top of my head.

Should add, if you have mixed FW/ZK bodywork, it’s the type of tub and rear end on the car that dictates whether it’s an FW or ZK tank, as they’re in different positions, due to the different shape boot boxes. So an FW bonnet car, on a ZK tub, will have a ZK tank, and vice versa.

A Further thought, those with external surge tanks and lift pumps, as well as the normal injection pumps, will also have more fuel capacity, though it’s normally only a few liters or so more.

My long range factory tank was 35 litres if you could fill it......

That’s true! Having the very top of the tank above or virtually level with the top end of the filler pipe was an interesting design decision!

I can tell you that it seems to be a huge tank when it's spread all over the floor 😂

 

The main fuel pipe (from the tank to pump) decided to loosen itself this morning and vomit about 10 litres all over the car park at work... I think I'm going to smell of fuel for days! 😂😂

 

Fortunately I managed a temporary repair with the help of my on site LGV mechanic (owe him a pint when the pubs reopen!) and stemmed the flow from "fountain" to "drip" and get me home...  looks like a job for this afternoon 😳

So guys I actually took the rear decking off the Westy and measured up and it's about 32 litres in size. I was looking at paperwork that came with the car. so it's a standard tank sorry for any confusion.

Haha, thankfully! 

 

Eventually found the problem earlier today. The race style coupling was seemingly made of chinesium plus the braided hose had split. 

 

Seems the hose was a little long, meaning it was being moved up and down by the rear ARB causing movement of the jubilee clip and the hose to eventually fail. 

 

Shortening the hose by 30mm (removing the split) and the addition of a properly sized fuel pipe clip made of actual metal and she was good to go!
