Haroldgas
Afternoon all, thought it was about time I introduced myself. Fingers crossed I am soon to enter the Westfield world. My first ever kit was ordered back in January and I’m due to collect in 3 weeks. I say fingers crossed because we are living in very strange times. Could you ask for a more perfect time to start a build, isolated at home due to this virus, work on hold, wife won’t want me to take her shopping - knowing my luck all non essential travel will be banned and the factory won’t be able to complete my order. It going to happen, I know it, waited months, got the garage prepared, and then bang, major disappointment. Anyway, based in Bristol, never done this before but have always played with cars, just finished renovating a. Classic mini for my son and wanted a new project/toy. i have trolled though most of the build threads and will probably have my own, was disappointed not to see any on YouTube? one question before I leave you all to your isolation, what do You recommend for stone chip on the underside, some do, some don’t. What based on experience is the best? cheers.
Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO
Welcome and great to have some good news in all this corona focused doom and gloom. We need more details. Engine, body style etc. With regard to stone protection. Some just put it n the rear arches to prevent stones creating star cracks etc, I'd definitely suggest external stone guards for the front of the rear arches too. Will you be starting a build thread? I can't recommend doing so enough. Enjoy your build.

CraigHew
Hello and welcome. As ian ssid, perhaps protect the arches. My floor is pretty clear of any stone rash after 6 years.

Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO
Welcome from down the road in Somerset. Hope you can collect your kit despite the current problems. Have you had a chat with WF to see if there’s any chance they’ve got a substantial amount available currently, just a thought! As Ian has said, interested to find out what you’re building. I used Dinitrol products to both coat the underside of my car and chassis internals. Highly recommend a build thread, great way to tap into a wealth of experience. Helped me greatly. Enjoy the experience.
CarbonWest - Chris Broster - Bristol & Bath AO
Welcome from your local AO based in East Bristol. We ahve a good few local members who will be able to provide advice, tools and cars to compare/reference. Really looking to meeting up - watch this space for updates on dates and venues as CV19 gets a tighter grip - we might have to meet in a car park and shout across our cars... Hope the collection goes smoothly and you get a good start. Shout if you need anything - PM me to join the local WhatsApp group? Just a quickie on your page, Harold (welcome, BTW!).... is it OK to apply Dinitrol before the IVA? If it's anything like Waxoyl it will make all sorts of things disappear from view, including P Clips etc!

I sprayed the floor panels with Dinitrol 4941 in the early stage of my build before IVA, it forms a protective film that sort of self heals, not thick enough to “loose” P clips however. It makes a heck of a mess when you spray it though!

We can’t be that far apart I’m in Oldland Common. I’m not at all confident that I will be able to collect but have everything crossed. Yes I would be very keen to join you on the local meetings provided we all survive this madness with CV19 and it would be good to join the WhatsApp group. I do have some Gravitex left over from the mini restoration which I might use in the wheel aches, very messy to apply but good stuff. ive not gone for anything too exciting on the kit front, it’s my first go so I wanted to avoid as many pitfalls as possible, so sorry if this disappoints! Just FW Special Edition, 2l Zetec, with a few select upgades. The garage has fresh paint applied and is all ready to go, I did call Westfield but they said the chassis is not ready yet so looks like I will just have to wait for my collection date and hope the whole country has not been locked down🤞

No such thing as a “just this model” Westfield in my eyes, they’re all great individual fun cars. I used Dinitrol 4941 for the floor panels and squirted ML in every hole I drilled in the chassis, following recommendations on here. Beware though, I masked up the chassis, but found I was sticking to the floor the next day, and had to spend a day cleaning the garage floor . I coated the rear bulkhead and chassis with Gravitex, for a “non sticky” protective coating! Fingers crossed for your collection, in the current chaotic situation.
