Coronavirus and alcohol.

I heard a virologist (Prof Peter Piot) on TV the other day saying the coronavirus resides mostly in the throat (will get into lungs when full infection takes hold). A big danger was speaking to someone within a one metre distance and droplets in the breath contaminating a new host.

Never mind all the alcohol wipes and 20 second hand washing surely it is the duty of every responsible citizen to take matters into their own hands by imbibing alcohol above 60% ABV (120 proof) to kill the virus.

Seen online  Spirytus Delikatesowy – 192 proof

This dangerous and legendary Polish vodka, approved by the New York State Liquor Authority just four years ago, is nearly 100 percent pure alcohol, and believed to be the strongest liquor for sale in America. Fans highly recommend mixing it with something—anything—and don’t forget to say “Na Zrdowie!” They may be the last words you ever utter.

Strongest available in UK seems to be Balkan 176 Vodka (88% alcohol) Serbian Pure Grain Vodka.....and guess what...it's out of stock.

Those who didn't want to drink it could just gargle.

I've not tested the above and strongest I ever tried was 140 proof Polish vodka back in the seventies.

What a great way to go..... after a bottle or two of anything like that you won't care what illness is coming for you.

You sir are a legend, medical advice beyond equal or measure, I'm putting my car keys away and heading to oblivion.

Well, it’ll either kill the bugs or make them so drunk that they don’t care.  I’m in! 😄

Seeing as we have to spend 9 hours locked up in a 747 Jumbo with God knows how many other people, while we fly from Bangkok to Sydney, we think its best to keep our mouths and throats clear by washing then out with Champagne :d

Don’t spend all your time worrying about Covid and forget about the spiders in Oz with big teeth.

4 Australian States stopping roadside alcohol breath-testing in response to COVID-19.

I tried and failed to get the Balkan 176 Vodka (88% alcohol) as was out of stock on a few sites (fake news that a Mr J. of Westminster had bought the lot).

Initially I was keen to buy it to read the thirteen health warnings (even has one in Braille).

Then I thought possibly ABV 88 might be just too unpalatable even when it might be a life-saving medicine.

Similarly I decided against Spirytus Duch Puszczy  50cl / 95% ABV which was available.

Seeing online Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum 70Cl Bottle at a mere ABV 63 (126 proof) I ordered a bottle and it arrived today. Contains 44.1 units per bottle.

I am in an at risk group being a long term asthmatic as well as ancient so if I get the coronavirus continuous cough I will resort to the virus killer.

Expecting the worst I just tried a shot and very surprisingly it was pretty good. Recommended. Good health.

See if you can get some Stroh 80 overproof... its an Austrian Rum, and its 80% but quite disgusting to be quite honest.

Or Try some Brugal 151 its a little lower coming in at 75.5% but its more palletable for sure.

I've tried the Balkan 176 and its the most odd thing to drink, the only drink i have ever experienced to evaporate whilst on the way down, chilling it is a must 😄

On the Master of Malt website there are some amusing reviews and tasting notes.

If you don't close your mouth quickly it evaporates before you can swallow---Balkan 176.

That wouldn't do for me as the alcohol then might not be sufficient to attack the virus.

Great for a good nights sleep---Brugal Ron Blanco 151 but says discontinued.

Tasting Note--- Stroh Inländer 80 ABV.

Nose: Rich, punchy spices and caramel-like sweetness. Woody.

Palate: Sweet notes of Demerara sugar, potpourri and butterscotch. Very intense. Hints of molasses and treacle.

Finish: Long, musty finish. Nutmeg, cloves and sweetness.

Overall: Incredibly intense.

I've looked at so many sites and drinks that I've lost track but I recall one strong spirit drink with tasting note stating essences of pear, caramel and pop tarts!?   Really?  Bring back Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke.

Given the rather interesting skill set of many of us when it comes to fabrication, plumbing etc. I wonder who's going to be the first with too much time on their hands to build a still themselves and get into home production?

Irish Pochin is pretty potent stuff

Having looked at a variety of spirits online it's an interesting read about  Irish Poteens and American Moonshine, as well as 151 proof Jack Daniels not forgetting ABV 89 Absinthe for some hallucinations.

Poteen is certainly potent Tex.

I saw Knockeen Hills Irish Poteen Gold Extra-Strength (70cl, 90% ABV alcohol) but unfortunately was £70 a bottle.

Coronavirus: Off-licences added to list of 'essential' retailers.

After strict new restrictions were brought in by government earlier this week, it issued a list of “essential retailers”, such as Halfords, that are allowed to stay open. They include:

Supermarkets and other food shops

Pharmacies

Off-licences and licensed shops selling alcohol, including those within breweries

Petrol stations

Newsagents

Bicycle shops

Launderettes and dry cleaners

Garages

Pet shops

Post offices

Banks.

Just seen in the comments section of the above article
