M8KWR
I am looking at upgrading my standard 2inch harnesses to something better - 3 inch! I brought a second hand harness willans one that I could not fit due to where the lap adjuster buckle was fixed fouled my seats and were unusable. Since I don't want to make the same mistake against, can I check what other people are using, opinions etc. The Schroth one for example on this link has a different style lap adjusters to the TRS one on this link; unsure the TRS one can be adjusted to suit my JK seats or not. Car isn't used for track, and I know I probably should go for a 5 point system!
dhutch
Is wider better?
M8KWR
I just need a belt where all straps come apart, I have a frozen shoulder. So it is a pain at the moment. I can’t find a release type harness that is 2inch top and bottom.
BigSkyBrad
1 hour ago, dhutch said: Is wider better? Yes and no. Yes, 3" is better, where the webbing thickness and strength per square inch is the same as a 2" - also three inch spreads the contact across the body. However, when you compare the cross section of a 2" ejection seat harness to a 3" racing harness, the jet harness is way stronger (I'm an ex-Airforce aircraft safety systems tech). So it's subjective. There are 2" QRF (Quick Release Fitting (the buckle is a 'fitting')) harnesses around, and I believe the 2" to be a better fitment in a small confined road-car than a bulky 3". https://www.purple-dot.com/performance-shop/uncategorized/luke-professional-4-point-harness/ Pull-up lap belts are better than pull-down lap belts, as the lap belts can be made snugger to the body. And I know I always bang on about this each time belts come up on the forum, but I see so many with the straps adjusted incorrectly, which would result (in an accident) the wearer slipping under the harness and cramming into the footwell...so, always have the shoulder straps slackened off when getting in, adjust the lap belts snug and low to the hip line, below the gut on the portly fellas, and only then adjust but not overtighten the shoulder straps. When you get out of the straps, slacken the shoulder straps before your bum leaves the seat.

The LUKE ones in the link look as good as any others, and affordable if not the cheapest?
BigSkyBrad
Just don't purchase 'Mr' Luke Harness, who popped up when I was googling!
CraigHew
One thing I don't like about my change of harness from (Westfiled) 2 inch to (Schroth) 3 inch is that where the belts come through the Sport Turbo Seat "eylets" they are quite near your neck. It's no fault of the excellent Schroths, which I'd recommend in a heartbeat, but a factor of the eyelet position in the ST seats. I only overcame the problem by purchasing a set of Schroth belt pads which, once in position, offer decent relief. You may not have Sport Turbo style seats but at least be aware of the issue. M8KWR
Thanks for that. I have jk composite seats. Which still might have the same issue. So pads would be a consideration

However in my friends car with with the sports turbo seats, his Schroth harnesses cut quite badly into my neck.
TableLeg
I have 3" Racelidz belts. I have Jk seats but also lowered floors. The lap belts are a bit of a fiddle as the adjusters are right where the seat hole cutouts are. I wish I'd have gone for the 3" shoulder with 2" lap belts instead.
