How about the actual AERORACE with the zetec 170bhp?

How fast is the car? is funny?

It´s difficult to find it specs, could be about 5 sec 0-60mph and 125mph top speed? In a GP circuit, fast lap could be about the same of a bmw m2?

I´ve seen that the front disc brakes are not ventilated, could be a problem in hard track use?

Is the zetec easily tunable to 220-240bhp? I think with that power could be a serious weapon.

Not a problem because the cars are so light. If you need vented discs, you're braking wrong! :D

I´m waiting for one AERORACE and I am in doubt if the 170bhp are enought to have a competitive track car.

Yep Just N/A.

  • Head ported and polished by CNC heads and matched with their specification cam. CNC claims ( 215bhp @ 6400rpm and 247 bhp @ 8200rpm) to the 7500rpm limit on this car fairly accurately supports the claimed power output on this engine.
  • Arrow engineering buckets
  • ARP rod bolts
  • Balanced and polished crank
  • Standard Zetec flywheel machined and lightened by CNC Heads
  • Raceline sump
  • Omex 600 ECU
  • Jenvey throttle bodies
  • Bosch green injectors
  • Simpson Race Exhausts aluminium manifold 4 into 2 into 1

I have an Aerorace, but with 210Hp Zetec (head porting, Jenvey ITB, Catcams camshaft, KMS Ecu management, 4-1 exhaust, raceline oil sump) for now set at 7200 max rpm . Previous owner claimed 235hp on the second engine but it was with more bore cylinders and special burton power larger pistons, rods , more extreme camshafts.

This engine is waiting to rebuild, so I can not confirm this power.

But - 0-100 time in my case is closer to 6sec. Looking at graph from racechrono it is obvious that main problem is time consuming gear change. It might be the case of my gearbox - MT75. In original Aerorace it is Type 9 gearbox as I saw on manual for this model.

As for the brakes - no need for haevier vented discs. I ve made so far approx only 300km of track use. But no issues with overheated brakes. Mainly because of lightweight, propably also because of much braking force on the rear so not only front brakes ale working hard.

yes, a lot of fun ;)

Nice video!

I don´t have the car yet but I´m looking to tune the zetec 🙊.

The MT 'box is very strong and shouldn't be dismissed as a suitable box for a road car, but for regular trackdays and for competition you really need much closer ratios, which are only readily available for the type 9. IMHO.

I suppouse my car was tuned to some kind of endurance racing. Maybe because of this type of racing the choice of MT75 in it ? as a robust-solid gerabox. And lighter than type 9.  More of endurance equipment there :

- there was a gearbox oil radiator and electric oil pump installed ( I throw it out - over 2 kg weight saving and less oppurtunity for oil leak , electric failure itc)

- big 5 paddle clutch 270mm (std is propably 4 paddle 240mm?) (this I left, but next will look for smaller with lighter flywheel)

- huuuge fuel tank  with two low pressure pumps . (changed for small 5-10 liters, but left two LP pumps - just in case one gives up.  )

- rather big engine oil radiator ( I have read that Zetec can live even without oil radiator if water cooling is made properly? ) - I left it for safety, but have to investigate if such big oil radiator is really needed for Zetec

Anyway, the gearbox subcjet is on my mind for future , but this is subject for separate topic in Tech Talk , hoping for some help from experienced WSCC Members with comparing different type  9 modifications, companies etc.
