dhutch Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 But of a long shot, but as par title.... ...if anyone has a ford english ali diff housing lurking unloved for sensible money. Cheers Daniel
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Always best to buy a new one. SPC components in Redditch sell them. If theres one for sale second hand, you have to ask why given that they are desirable. Most likely its got a problem
dhutch Posted February 28, 2020 Author Posted February 28, 2020 Valid points, as I say, going to be a long-shot! 2 hours ago, John said: Always best to buy a new one. IanD Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 keep fancying one of these myself but seem to hear mixed reviews about them. Are these the ones to go for? Wonder if they would do a discount for 2
dhutch Posted February 28, 2020 Author Posted February 28, 2020 I am in two minds too. Obviously its very real weight saving, like 5kg of unsprung mass, but equally the car drives well and does all I need without it. Clearly a damaged/problematic one could be a world of pain but otherwise it should be a fairly straight swap with no downside? Years ago I missed on going for a very good price, and have always wondered if it was a error on my part or a blessing! Ended up with a 4.4:1 ratio when I put in the ATB and it doesnt meet my needs at all, hence rebuild time. Daniel
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Ive had one in the past but it fractured but then again I was sprinting with quite brutal starts and dog gearbox changes with a good amount of power. I replaced it with a lightweight cast iron one from a 105E which is a better option for what I was doing with it. I might still have one if of interest
IanD Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 This is my dilemma too Diff needs a rebuild and going to change the ratio at the same time so cant decide weather to take the plunge. Probably not worth a lot in performance really but every little helps and we like shiny new things. John. Will let dhutch take you up on your offer if he wants to as its his add. I have just hijacked it.

If there is risk of fracture (presumably fatigue failure) on the Ali ones that does put me right off. The car is being fitted with a stock 2l blacktop, and I run list 1a tyres, fast road use and autotesting so less harsh than a lot of sprint usage would be, but also driven hard including a reasonable number of quick starts. Presumably the 105E had an English Axle in it, with a reduced weight diff housing? Direct fit part? Will have to look at that. Daniel

About half the weight saving of the aluminium one

Thanks, although if you are thinking of the below, its not the part I am after, my car is a live-rear using the whole of the English axle not just the diff in a IRS setup. https://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/topic/137835-44-english-diff-with-quaife-atb/ Daniel
