Mark Bishop Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Hi Any help please. I currently have a 1998 SEIW with ZK bodywork, boot box etc with standard inertia seat belts. I would like to change to put harness's on for which i have a pair of Westfield harness's. Has anybody done this conversion? having had a look if i use the standard harness boss's and eye bolts on the chassis the fibreglass boot box and lid will need a lot of chopping out and could end up quite ugly to allow enough room for harness straps to move to go over shoulder height etc. I guess the inside strip could bolt to the existing strap boss which is raised above the chassis and boot box but what about the outside strap? is there a way of mounting that to the roll bar that would work or be legal ?(standard jap bar) Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Many thanks Mark Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Many have done it, but it does require some careful slotting of the boot lid framework. Irrespective of having a boot lid, some have used the pair of inner (inertia reel) mounting turrets for the inner shoulder straps, I can't say I'm a fan. It's one of those things that you'll only know for sure if it's really an issue in the unfortunate event of a crash. At which point, I really wouldn't want to find out that the differing heights caused you to twist in the harnesses in an unplanned/un-allowed for way! I'll see if I can find the section of my build thread covering the slotting of the frame. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Ok, here you go. The thread actually covers the whole fitting of the boot lid, which starts the page before, but the modifying of the frame starts here: Hopefully you can get an idea of what's required. It's a bit of a faff to do, make no mistake, but as I and plenty of others have found, it does work really well once done, and was well worth it. 1 Quote
