Anyone have a gear shift extension that is surplus to requirments. For type 9 box

I maybe wrong, but a 2l Zetec (assumed from your car details) mated to a type 9 should only need a cranked gear lever. I found the gear lever extension on my Duratec would have put the gear lever too far rearwards, so much so that the extension would hit the chassis within the tunnel.

The extension puts it in the perfect place on mine.

Yep  agreed, a 2l zetec was too far back with  the extension. I recall it fouled a chassis cross member.

Measure it first before you buy one.

I shortened  and bent a type 9 gearstick.  It Works great

Do you have a photo of your gear lever showing its position and how cranked it is?

Can the reverse lockout still be operated with a bent lever or does it become awkward?

The Type 9 gear lever was bent as close to the bottom as possible.  (Oxy acetylene heated to cherry red, then bent)

Then the shaft was shortened and re-threaded.

It has been used for a number of years. No problems at all.

I made a jig to clamp the lower end of the gear lever in a vice. That

1. Avoid damaging the bottom end of the lever.

2. Controlled where the bend starts, e.g. not too low.

The car is a wide body 2L Zetec, with an initially MT75 gearbox, but it was later converted to a Type 9.

Thanks for that.  This was me experimenting this summer with a slightly cranked lever:

It's hard to see from the angle but it does tuck under the dash a bit.  With the size of the Westfield remote I do seem to have to choose between under the dash or reaching back a bit, at least with the lever with the amount of crank that I had.  When the weather improves I'll experiment a bit more 😁
