"A FOUNDER of the Extinction Rebellion protests has been accused of “blind hypocrisy” after it was revealed she had flown to Central America for a luxury holiday despite leading calls for a “rapid reduction” in air travel.

Gail Bradbrook clocked up 11,000 air miles as she flew to Costa Rica for a week’s £2,500 stay at the New Life Iboga retreat then a week touring the tropical paradise."

I'm all for cleaner air and fewer carcinogens in the environment but NOT for going back to the Stone Age in 2025 and we need a better approach which must include the major polluters of USA, India and China.

That was 2016. She's been born again since then. :sheep:

She should never have been born in the first place.

I read a Middle-Eastern insult in a book may years ago: "A curse upon the mother of the midwife you yanked you out by your legs!" Seems fair...

The bottom line is a Westfield is environmentally friendly.   Recycled parts from the past.  A great philosopher (bob the builder said)...   reduce, reuse and recycle.

reduce.. use cars for longer

reuse .....  make westfields from broken sierras and mazdas

recycle...   what’s left of the Sierra to China so they can send back something better.

back on topic..........sorry midweek weissbier.......  The bottom line is it’s the youth which are the problem.... 9B7AC512-27A1-4BAA-8150-14BD67816FB2.thumb.png.6809817c0d43305943d9e324eafe9fa3.png

2 weeks ago I was in Munchen.    Not for Octoberfest.  (1 day late)  But there are some things to take note of.

WeissBier bought by the crate. (Or any beer) Deposit paid on the crate and bottles.   The beer is cheep, Almost All the bottles are common to all beers.   The bottles are washed and reused.   That’s better than melting them down to .. make the same bl**** thing.

The same system with soft drinks even in plastic bottles from ‘Getranke’

plastic bottles from the supermarket have a deposit on them so you return them, via a machine at their entrance.

homeless win a little by checking the bins and streets looking for bottles and cans as they have deposit value.

Germany is not virtuous...   every big city has a fire power station yet it’s the UK fined by the EU for creating to much pollution.   Some how I guess we must be filling in our declaration forms wrongly.   Nine  tonnes of co2 could be interpreted differently in Brussels.

I do like a few Rants now and again, makes my day 👍.

That Gail Bradbrook, wasn’t she the one who had a Rant on TV a couple of years ago?  Going on about us Baby Boomers raping the pension funds with our final salary pensions and being in a position to pay of our mortgages with above average salaries, when others had to make do with expensive poor rented housing.

They are doing quite well otherwise but yes lots of coal fired power stations,  even worse some are powered by Brown Coal the worst of the worst.  I know this as my cousin lives near the largest brown coal open cast mine in Europe

I've no time for them, the UK does very well. Instead of all this Ranting, we just need to continue the sensible movement that had been going on. Making good scientifically based progress.

It's the Rants and Idiots that create havoc. ie the really brilliant Gov Policy of telling everyone to buy Diesel and then a few years later telling them, sorry got that one wrong, we will tax you massively for doing what we told you. I think that has damaged the car industry / market far more than Brexit. But also I'm still pretty sure that it's based on"bad science" and we will find out in a few years that the knee jerk reaction was wrong again.

There is scientific proof that the Earths average temperature is increasing and that’s been measured for the last 200 years.

The reasons are due to Human activity and the natural cycle of Earths climate.   How much change is due to humans is debatable but we don’t want to get to the point where the Human effect on temperature is irreversible.

Its not just the ER people that have this view,  noted climatologists have the same view.

For some interesting information on climate change have a look at “Not a lot of people know that”  Paul Homewood does a good job highlighting some of the crazy statements and facts.

Corbyn the Elder runs Weather Action which is a site that argues against CO2 being an effective greenhouse gas - among other arguments. I must admit that the thought of an atmospheric level of 0.04% of a gas being 'dangerous' to the climate when 0.03% (the pre-industrial level) was not is counter-intuitive. This is especially true when anyone can observe that a cloudy winter's night is usually frost free while a clear one is usually frosty and there has been no change in atmospheric CO2 between the two nights. Water vapour (i..e.cloud cover) is demonstrably an effective heat blanket whereas CO2 (a gas necessary to plant life incientally) in trace quantities doesn't seem very likely to be. Of course if your underlying agenda is political it's easier to legislate against carbon dioxide than clouds!

If there is doubt, any doubt at all, as to whether CO2 really is behind the very small rise in global temperatures (if any) then surely it is unwise to splash billions of dollars around in some Quixotic belief that mankind can somehow resist the unstoppable forces of nature? Better by far to work on adaption to a one or two degree rise. Is it really credible that such a minute rise would wreak the havoc that XR would have us believe anyway? Sceptical? Moi? Mais oui!

Oh and by the way five hundred climate scientists recently wrote to the UN saying that there is NO climate emergency. Not widely reported was it?
