John Dolan - Wirral & North Wales AO Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Flying electric taxi. Not sure about that. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Nope. Doubt it will ever happen either. (Not on the scale they envisage, or the quantity sci fi movies would suggest, at least). In these risk-averse, health and safety led times, can you imagine even trying to launch the normal motor car now, if nothing like it already existed? Electrical powered aircraft on a larger scale, be interesting to see. It's certainly hard to reconcile the amount of air travel in the world today with the damage done. Quote

Air travel only accounts for around 10% of all travel/transportation related co2 emissions. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 So a high figure then, when the amount of travel for fun is taken into account. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 We best all hang our toy car keys up then!! Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Ultimately, we will need to change, that's for sure. Quote

No Dave, I will be like the celebrities and tell everyone how Green I am and how I love saving the planet but carry on doing exactly the same as I have always done. 1 3 Quote

Change yes, but via growth, not by stopping what we already do. Invest in better ways of doing things, the guy on that flight to JFK may be the one who finds a magic cure, don’t stop him going. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 I'm looking forward to be allowed green number plates for my Good Lady's Nissan Leaf. I'm sure it will attract paraise and plaudits from the awe struck assembled masses in the car park at Tesco's 🙄 Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 forgive me for thinking that the green number plate idea is just a scam in disguise, designed for the benefit of the wealthy and ruling class , Quote

But there is a big difference in price , I for one couldn't afford to buy a family sized electric car , or an electric shopping trolly for that matter , not that I want one . even 2nd hand prices don't compare from what i can see plus I think you would be hard pushed to claw the price difference back on fuel costs unless you can do significant mileage , seems to me they have to spend most of the day charging . Quote
SootySport Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 EV’s cost about 3p per mile for fuel and petrol 10p+ but of course you have to be on the best tariff. If you have solar panels it’s free. Used Leafs sell for £4K upwards if you can get over the looks. Most of the older Renault Zoe’s you have to lease the battery for £50 month so not a good deal for lower annual mileage. Not many others for sale second hand yet but give it a couple years and there’ll be more choice. I would only buy a used one for a second car for the wife to go to work in as it’s only 3 miles away. Looking for a salvaged Zoe to repair as the battery will be off the lease scheme, due to being written off. Quote
