stephenh Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 I have a 900 amp peak power power pack, sometimes known as a portable jump start system. Hardly ever used, it has both mains charger and adapter for charging off a car 12V. socket. I'm not sure what the max. cranking amps rating is, but it starts a high compression 4 cylinder petrol engine of 2.0 litres easily. I had it when I had my 2.0 litre duratec engined sprint Westfield, and on the rare occasions that I allowed the battery to run low over winter on that it had no trouble starting it. Not sure how old it is, but it cost me new £69.99, and I think it is still available but usually bundled with a compressor which I don't have. It was marketed as a Streetwize SWPP2 900 amp battery jumper. How about £45 collected? I'm reluctant to offer to post, partly because of the weight and partly because I have an idea that you are not supposed to post charged batteries. I can be collected from my house (Near Uttoxeter, Staffordshire) or I can take it to the Speed Series awards dinner if the purchaser or a trusted friend is going to attend.
stephenh Posted October 22, 2019 Author Posted October 22, 2019 100 views, and no takers! Is it too much? If you want it but think it is too expensive, then make me an offer. Provided it isn't silly low, I'll consider offers. Delivery might be the biggest problem of course. I will weigh it so you can have an idea of what it might cost for carriage. Although surely most members know someone who is going to the awards dinner?
stephenh Posted October 22, 2019 Author Posted October 22, 2019 Ok. first I've weighed it with its charger and packaging, and my scales say in "old money" 14.75 lbs. That tallies well with the manufacturer's figure (no doubt without packaging and charger) of 6.3 kgs. So if you want to estimate cost of carriage, work on about 7 kg to allow for additional packaging for transport. You can see what it looks like if you google Streetwize SWPP2. Looks like some good deals on Amazon, so I'm happy to accept £35, buyer to collect or pay full cost of carriage. For those not familiar with powerpacks, they give high initial current to start a car which has a flat battery, without the need for jump leads or a second car. The spec. can be seen on the internet, using the make and model quoted above. However, as so often with such things, the spec. is in my opinion overclaiming the power available. They say it will start cars of up to 3.0 litres petrol or 2.2 litres diesel. I don't think it would, but as stated previously, it will spin a 2.0 litre petrol engine over easily.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 I’ll take it please Stephen, can collect from the Awards do on the Sunday, if that’s OK?
stephenh Posted October 23, 2019 Author Posted October 23, 2019 Excellent, Dave, glad its going to a good home! No problem to bring it to the awards dinner. Looks like I should have delayed reducing the price!😉 1
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Tell you what Stephen, I'll stick the £10 difference in the awards night charity collection, how's that? 1
stephenh Posted October 23, 2019 Author Posted October 23, 2019 Oh dear, now I'm going to be embarrassed. Tell you what, as I'm a hard up pensioner, and I've got to find the money to buy a more powerful power pack to turn over the motor on my XKR, I'll put a fiver in the pot. 1 1
