conibear Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 For the Speed Series and other MSA complient events where would you install the battery cut-off switch, does it need to be at arm's reach whilst strapped in car? Cheers Ian Quote
SteveD Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 the best place is at arm's reach and in an easy place to see it ie not under your dash ,and make sure its clearly marked Quote
DickieB Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 Check with the organisers of your championship - for an open car such as a Westfield, many insist on it being on the top of the scuttle, or at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side. For the speed series it is not necessary anyway - although you will need a clearly marked on/off switch or ignition key, ideally on the dashboard Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 Whoa - hold your horses Mr. Conibear An engine cut off switch is NOT a mandatory requirement for sprints and hillclimbs So you don't have to fit one, merely have your ignition clearly marked with the off direction If you do intend to install one, as said it must be within arms reach of yourself when strapped into your car common place is on dash - if you do fit one it must isolate and shut-off everything including fuel pump and all secondary electrics and it must be clearly marked direction of off - Demon Tweeks do a decal sheet for just a couple of quid. Cut-off switches are only mandatory for circuit racing Quote
conibear Posted January 4, 2004 Author Posted January 4, 2004 Cheers all. Mark, forgive me for a mo but I did a search via the SELOC sprint series to meet MSA requirements and it is mentioned there amongst other things like catch tanks. I have a battery cut-off switch and will install after SVA (7/1/04). But I am surprised to read your comments that it is not necessary, I shall fit it anyway. Cheers Ian Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 If it is called for by SELOC - then it will be their specific championship ruling If you cross-check with "Blue Book" you will see its not mandatory but merely advisable Championships do have some specific rules in addition to the Blue Book for a variety of reasons and previous experiences I've never fitted on myself for the past 4 seasons - but it is on a "to do" list for 2004 Quote
Blatman Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 I don't use one on my sprint car....... It is not necessary if you are running in a road going class, ie your car is taxed, insured, and MOT'd, and running in a road going class. Taking mine off saved over a kilo in fittings, cabling, etc etc........ Quote
conibear Posted January 4, 2004 Author Posted January 4, 2004 Taking mine off saved over a kilo in fittings, cabling, etc etc........ Jesus, was you using steel wire armoured cable blatters Mind you, you need all the help you can get with that 205 block. But I've heard on the grapevine you can drive a bit Thanks for assistance chaps, but I'm gonna fit it co's I don't trust my driving and being upside down unconcious with fuel pumping at 55psig I consider it worthwhile. Blatman Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 I don't trust my driving and being upside down unconcious with fuel pumping at 55psig I consider it worthwhile. I'd have considered in that situation that an inertia switch would be more worthwhile. You'll have a whole load of trouble operating a kill switch if you're unconscious (dur), and a marshal won't go anywhere near a kill switch if the car's in flames and spewing petrol everywhere........
