SootySport Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Anyone know when kit car SVA/IVA started? and did people in the past just drive the Kit on the donor V5 without notifying the DVLA? Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 IIRC 1998, and no before that you would still have to notify the DVLA of a change in the vehicles identity, body type and chassi number etc. Quote

Stuart Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 In the real old days you could pay a few quid 'car tax' and have your kit classed as a new car with no testing required at all. So my Mini Marcos didn't have a handbrake until just before its first MoT at 3 years old........ Quote

My car was registered in 1996 and I have SVA paperwork for it. Quote

When I registered my first kit car in 1971 I had to provide all receipts proving the parts for the build were new and then a police inspection to check the chassis and engine numbers, this enabled a new K reg otherwise I would had a Q plate. The police inspection was whatever the policeman wanted to check he said. 1 Quote

Police inspection was just to check that the engine hadn't been nicked I think. Edited to say that I just found out that Q reg wasn't introduced until 1983, so you couldn't have had one in 1971.... 1 Quote
