A council provided site on the A355 between Beaconsfield and Amersham was trashed and looted for copper fittings and cabling within weeks of its opening. This was in the 1980s if I remember rightly. It was left as a transit site (aka layby) until about 2004 then it was 'bunded off' to use the council lingo, and put out of use.
