Onliest Smeg David Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 I have a damaged piston which requires replacing (hopefully that's all 🤞) with full internal engine check over. ASAP as need Westfield for EuroTour end of August. Anyone have recommendations in NW, as close to Bury as possible Quote
Rory's Dad Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Ouch - that's not good. How did it happen?? @AdamR will know someone to fix it I'm sure. Quote

Didn't I write an EXTENSIVE post about the risks of that... Precisely you should not be the one to suffer this Dave.  Now... Damage is done. Buy a mondeo-focus-transit 1.8 Zetec. Put your ancillaries including cams, bolt all together and off you go (remember to have the injectors checked). That is a weeks time work.  When you are back, check what has happened in your engine, refresh, rebuild, and spare.   Edited August 7, 2019 by Chris King - Webmaster and Joint North East AO Remove f word 😊 1 Quote
TAFKARM Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 ^ Agreed - an engine builder won’t be able to turn it round in time! Quote

But doesn’t the engine have a flowed head and other mods to up the power? If so the map will be out. Quote
maurici Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Well after speaking with Dave... he has a few checks to do way before actually stripping the engine.  The engine is running... roughly but runnin. And does not burn any oil... I see unlikely this happening with a damaged piston.  Its been diagnosed with an endoscope... and what the guy saw trough it could be just dirt deposits from a rich combustion... or, who knows if marks from a dodgy valve... rather than the actual piston being the problem.  First step, is to check compression in all 4 cilinders and see if any difference. If compression is good and there is not oil burnt, i would be very reluctant on stripping the engine, and I would start with the ancillaries (basically injection and or spark). This is way faster to check (and needs checking regardless) than just stripping an engine for the sake of it.  Chris. Not sure what the head has in his case... normally for a mildly tuned zetec ports are already too big from factory, and i would be surprised if has any important work on it other than 3d valves cut, and despite being important... maybe not too much for the mapping. 2 Quote
Onliest Smeg David Posted August 7, 2019 Author Posted August 7, 2019 BLiNK ported head and 'fast road' profiles cams. Quote

Start diagnosing the compression, and in paralel have your injectors checked and move from there.  Happy to have a chat with you after the compression test. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 BLiNK can sort the injector cleaning and testing, too. Quote
