I just like the way diesel drive. Low revs high torque I guess. Total opposite of Westie. Now Euro6 will undoubtably mean adblue, which may be nothing but it could be an annoyance, even just once a year top up. So maybe I should take a look at Petrol. No harm in a test drive. Interesting how Audi have eliminated ‘fun’ in motoring! Seems consistent. So I’m leaning towards BMW. Appreciate your comments. Andy I like the chassis on my Beemer and the autobox makes driving a derv tolerable. However for your mileage, petrol will be cheaper when you factor in all the costs! https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/choosing-between-petrol-and-diesel-powerhttps://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/choosing-between-petrol-and-diesel-power I've had the ECR replaced under warranty and also the EGR Cooler. Mine get's regular motorway runs so with your short runs, you're even more likely to have issues! Quote
SootySport Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 If I Had £40k to spend on a daily car, my first thought would be the new Tesla 3. Up to now I have done comparisons on running costs and petrol power always wins but the smaller cheaper Tesla would meet my needs for range and lifestyle. I do have solar panels for free daily electric so fuel costs would be not far off zero for me. Not sure how electric cars fair for towing though, need to check that out 🤔 Quote

Must knock back the range quite a bit though. It’s 94 miles to Snetterton but a recharge while I’m on a trackday should get me home. Worth thinking about. Quote

I can then look for low mileage high spec and derv wins easily. Agree about dpf but as I said before, no issue on the CC with similar 2 litre diesel, for my use. The X5 is always potentially an issue, agree, hence the monthly raping it at a constant 4K in 2nd or 3rd. Quote
Rhett Turner - Black Country AO Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 bit of a left field to think about, relative of mine is just about to get a nearly new 7 series he's getting pre-face lift version about 6 months old and with almost no miles for half the price new. He's also swapping from an X5. 1 Quote
MrPid Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I have a derv 5 series as my daily - E61 Touring so shes getting on a bit. One of the best car's ive ever driven though, handling and ride are sublime, even for a big beast. Its just the repair costs that are eye watering. Luckily mine has been pretty reliable. The mrs has a TT which is amazing, I loved my A6 before, but again, bit boring. Always loved the look of the A5, but boring. I would be looking at a V8 petrol merc if I was doing short journeys, they sound immense! Quote

the stoat Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 As it is a daily is it worth giving the Mercedes route a try? I have just gone for a CLS shooting brake. I note you want a 'drivers' car and have to say I will never go for anything remotely sporty again, having comfort over stiff suspension that makes random bits of you wobble has been a revelation!
