As some of you might know i have suffered "insect bites" for the last couple of years.

its being treated as cellulitis (at least 3 times in the last 12 months), with floixcillin, normally before red leg there is fantastic fatigue 18 hour+ sleeps.

My problem is they are now happening too frequently, and the doctor says i'm fine as i have a treatment strategy.... obviously this is not long term option!!

when i turn up with a sharpie outline on the leg they say "thats a good idea!"..... no! its my way of proving whether its working, and my coping strategy

a good friend with knowledge suggested lymes disease and I'm being currently being tested, but i am also after any other suggestions people can think of as the local GP hasn't got a clue.

background

18 stone and 5"7'..... so short for my weight! ;-)

i like to think active, cycling 10k a week

busy lifestyle

busy worker, but its not stressful, i enjoy it

age 44

drinks too much

kidney stones

history of diabetes in the family

love outdoors

reasons lymes fits:-

brain fog

aching joints - confirmed arthritis in hand; knees murder

fatigue

rashes (not bullseye)

always been a bad sleeper

so apart from un-diagnosed panda flu, has anyone got other avenues i can investigate as if i'm being honest the not knowing is the worst, and i seem to know more than the GP, with comments like "what do you think it is?"...

seen as i didn't do four years in medical school and started coding computer programs at the age of 13.... that sort of winds me up, you should see what i can do with a f'ing paper clip!

*** I'm not after sympathy, so what i need are serious suggestions that i can investigate and look into.

as this could be sensitive for people, if you want to keep comments private please feel free to email me johnpdwilliams@hotmail.com

Thank you friends

See you at Blyton

Well done for pushing/searching for solutions.

There is definitely something ailing the Panda paws which needs fixing. I'm sure you shouldn't be having such regular occurrences.

They should be delving into 'why' , not just routinely treating when the symptoms show.

I remember most episodes of 'House' included a test for Lupus as some kind of a standing joke. However, symptoms include extreme fatigue, joint pain, rash...

Good luck with your investigation- could you maybe ask for a referral to a skin specialist, even if you have to pay yourself, it might be worth it to escape that GP?

Hello John,

when you have this occurrences where are they located?? At random places of the body?? Does it itch? What about temperature.. are you with fever at those times? Do you take any regular medication? For what and for how long?

Usually lymes disease it caught by a tick byte and produces some secondary slight cardiac condition.

Not helpful but...

#1 Keep yourself properly covered up - no exposed arms or legs.

#2 Gain some height (you know what I mean) so drink and eat a bit less!

#3 Go out for a walk just before you go to bed. This might help you sleep.

#4 What are you thinking about when you're tucked up in bed. I'd be surprised if you're not stressed out a bit somewhere in your life!!

Take care Panda.

Can you go private for some blood tests? Just to get some answers/narrow down the possible root causes?

You can then pass any results onto your GP and discuss their lack of enthusiasm to help.

He/she might be very good in other ways but as your doctor sounds worse than useless!

There is a lot about what should be happening if Lyme is suggested on the link below, even if tests are negative they say don't rule it out.  If you are not happy get a private GP visit or perhaps (prompt your GP to) get in touch with the Liverpool School of Tropical medicine - they took an immediate and very keen interest when my daughter had it.

Please please do not take this as rude and no offence is meant...    18st and 5'7"     You and I are almost the same age and definitely,  that age where these things matter.  Gone are the days of natural fitness, or being able to eat/drink it all without some sideways expansion have gone out the window.   Now spending sunday afternoon doing something different like digging the garden has repercussions the next day, it didn't 10 years ago.   You say active and unless it's a typo cycling 10km per week not active.    I'm  cycling currently over 175 miles a per week and even in the dark of winter ~100 miles, and pushing hard most the way..   I don't consider myself that fit or active as most of my working day I'm desk bound.      I know fitness and being healthy is unlikelty to magically fix your episodes, but maybe make them easier and have some positive side effects

If  your power to weight ratio is better then everything will be easier even when tired.

Fitter and better diet will help keep away the diabetes.. No proven that in the majority of cases can be reversed by self help.

Exercise can boost your immune system

Exercise you get a "feel good" and proven to be good for mental health as well.  (although most think I am Mad to ware Spandex and Cycle for miles on a rock solid seat)

Lower body mass and better foods  takes load of many of your organs allowing more capacity to deal with other stuff....

Diet... well balanced and natural.    And avoid so called healthy alternatives as more often than not it turns out they are not.

Doctors look for drugs to fix the symptoms, but seldom are they addressing the reason.   They can't cure the common cold, we take drugs to elevate the symptoms and just simply wait until our bodies have done the business.    So be kind to your body and help it help you.

Good luck and see you at Blyton :)

No offence taken....  i'm on a get more active plan, i enjoy cycling & hillwalking and the job is not just a sit a a desk one, i'm not an ultra marathon runner but no couch potato which was what i was trying to suggest..

the age thing and this is why i'm looking at sorting this long term, and also thinking about the whole holistic view. but when i get whacked i'm not in a good place

see you at blyton!!!!
