randomlyben Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 i dont spose anyone has ever looked into using this engine in a westfield. i thought it may be quite good as it delivers between 200 and 250 hp as standard and it already comes from a front engined rear wheel drive car (Nissan 200sx). it also looks fairly compact and the tuning possibilites are endless. just a thought. p.s im no technical genius so there could be a million and one reasons not to use this engine i just thought it could be an idea. Matt Seabrook Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 p.s im no technical genius so there could be a million and one reasons not to use this engine i just thought it could be an idea. That will be the first reason not to fit it then. If you undertake this fitment you will be on your own. Sure people with good intensions will try and help but the factor are unlikely to want to know. Quote
randomlyben Posted December 23, 2003 Author Posted December 23, 2003 i wasnt thinking about doing it as i dont have a westfield (yet) but i was wandering if anyone else had considered it. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Cant say I have heard of anybody fitting this engine in a Westy. Is the main reason for fitting this the power output you can get from it. If so then the factory has fitted Cossey turbo lumps and this to me would make more sense. If you want to do it to be different and I am not saying there is anything wrong with that good luck. Quote
Turbowestie.co.uk Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Since i built in my car with a non standard engine, i can vouch that the factory will have limited interest in your project, but that just makes some people even more determined to do it IMHO Unless your have a good technical understanding (not to mention the machining/ fabricating facitities) of what work is required, i would steer away from anything non standard, dont underestimate the extra work and expence required to getting it running. randomlyben Posted December 23, 2003 Author Posted December 23, 2003 thankyou and when the time comes i may well think about a cossey turbo. very nice car Turbowestie.co.uk i want a westfield! Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Out of interest have you been in any Westys yet and if so what engines have they had fitted? Quote
randomlyben Posted December 23, 2003 Author Posted December 23, 2003 been in a x-flow powered a while back Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Might be worth a blast in a Vx or 2000cc Zetec before you decide on a turbo car. If you dont mind a 5 min down load on a modem or about 30sec on adsl then try this link. Me v TVR This was a race I had against a TVR 4000cc Chimaera. My car has a 2000cc Zetec and acording to some on here (Blaters) the Zetec cant be made to go well. You can make up your own mind after seeing the video Quote
randomlyben Posted December 23, 2003 Author Posted December 23, 2003 cheers for the video link. only took a matter of seconds to download. i may also consider a 2000cc zetec or VX. p.s nice car Matt Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 cheers for the video link. only took a matter of seconds to download. i may also consider a 2000cc zetec or VX. p.s nice car Matt Thanks very much. My car is modified so may not be a great indicator of what Zetecs go like but you are not likely to need as much power as you think you do. Click on the web link in my post if you would like to see a bit more about my car and there are other Videos in there as well. Regards Matt Quote
randomlyben Posted December 23, 2003 Author Posted December 23, 2003 just watched all of the videos and was amazed of what westfields are capable of, in every video the westfield either won or was not far behind cars which probably cost a hell of a lot more than a westfield. i have looked at the spec of your car and now i know what it is capable of (from the video) i not sure whether i need a turbocharged westfield when a normally aspirated one provides enough power to beat "supercars" as yours does. once agian nice car, and thank you Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 The Westy up against the 911 Turbo 4 was a Vx car running carbs. The engine was unmodified the chap that owned it recond on about 175bhp which would be about right. It still managed the better the 911 (just) even with 400bhp the porker came second Quote
neilb Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Have a talk to Andy at Cat motorsport, I believe he has/had a car with a nissan 200sx engine in. HTH Neil Quote
