Blade Plumbing

I suspect I am just being thick, but the build manual and a few searches have not turned up any answers so I thought I should ask:-

I have plumbed up my blade engine as per the build manual but am left with four sets of open pipework. Anybody know if/where these should be attached to.

Coolant Union Top Hose (the larger one of the two)

Carb Air Vent Hose

Carb Breather Hose

And the valve cover one (a vent as well?)

The last three sound like they should be left open but I would rather be sure than sorry.

Thanks,

Kev.

The cam cover breather should be routed to a breather tank really, but I've had mine open for a while and it never breathes anything so you could leave it open and just keep an eye on it.

Likewise with the carb breather although that could breath fuel so is best off routing somewhere safe, but not into the same container as the cam cover breather as this can cause back pressure in the fuel breather and cause problems.

The little carb air vent hose that goes onto one of the inlet tracts needs blocking up. On the bike its a vacuum hose that has the fuel cut-off valve attached to it to shut the fuel flow off when the engine is stopped. As the valve usually isnt on the end and isnt used, you need to block this off to stop air getting sucked in and mucking up the mixture on that cylinder.

Dunno quite what you mean by the coolant union top hose tho as Ive only occasionally spectated on a Megablade build, but in general, maybe these standard blade plumbing diagrams might help you work out what direction things should be flowing:

Thanks Chris, really useful. The links you posted appear dead, page not found, are these correct.

On the coolant union, it just sits above the oil cooler. There is a small hose from the oil cooler to it and a bigger hose coming off.

Doh, just noticed on the blade parts microfiche that it should go to the water pump, next to the lower rad connection. Missed this entirely when I was trying to sort this out. It's pretty hard to see when the engine is in the car.

Thanks,

Kev.

Kevin, try the links again. When I posted, the forum removed a couple of underscores in the original links for some reason

I get what you're talking about now and yeh round to the water pump (kinda important that one  :D  )

Cheers, I nearly pressed the google button,   .

But why did they have to use that Mega word. It is flat out embarrassing, I am sure there must have been a better name, not that SEiGHT is a anything to write home about either.

Guessed it must be something interesting :suspect:, not that the build manual feels there is anything worth commenting about any bit that does not connect to a WF supplied part.

Links now ok, thanks, and plumbing all in place, just some electrics to go before I try and start it up and work out what else I should have known via divine intervention.

Have you got the Westifeld modded bike loom or are you doing it yourself? If its the latter, you need to connect a few wires together to ensure it all works, things like the sidestand switch and the kill switch wires. Drop me an email if you need more info as I probably won't be on here much
