Dicky 1105 Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Good evening, I have just bought a 1992 SE wide body , the car has been in hibernation for 18 years. The car has a 1600 X flow engine bored out to 1700, lightend and balanced crank, stage 3 head, stainless Pistons, all hooked up to a 4 speed type e gearbox. After replacing fuel pump, fuel lines and servicing the twin delorto's managed to get it running, sounds awesome. However clutch was stuck and gear-lever came off in my hand so currently engine and gearbox out of the car. Can't wait to get it out and see what it's all about. I need a few engine parts, new water pump and thermostat housing, where is the best place to get them ? Quote
Thrustyjust Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Sounds a great car and welcome . Law is that no photos and it hasnt/ doesnt happen here, so update with photos is very easy. With regards to the gearlever, the nylon ball does come off with the 4 speeds. I managed in my old car to drive 30 odd miles with it on the passenger seat , many moons ago. As for clutch sticking, thats common with cars not used . Good luck with the resurrection and there is plenty of people here with knowledge to help you along !! A good place for bits is Burtons for Ford stuff 1 Quote

hammie Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Hi Dicky Found this on eBay NOS. Good luck with the restoration. I've nearly finished mine. Just gone for a sympathetic recomisioning ATM with second hand parts mostly. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-escort-mk1-2-cross-flow-thermostat-housing/173815100824?hash=item28782ff598:g:emkAAOSwHlRbOUT4&redirect=mobile Quote

Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Hi and from the Warwickshire area! We have members in your locality that regularly attend our monthly meetings so get in touch if you want to travel up with them, hope to see you soon. +1 on Burtons for Ford parts, often next day delivery. Local motor factors can be excellent and cheaper but it depends on how knowledgeable the staff are etc. Quote
