Thrustyjust Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 And this one https://globalnews.ca/news/4810853/china-railgun-warship-weapon/ Luckily on some old battered ship, but the technology has beaten the west. Quote
CraigHew Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I think it's unfair and almost racially stereotypical to assume they've got military intentions. Surely they're just gonna open a take away...? 4 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Its the wrong way for popping off to Mars and picking up on the way through though Craig . Unless its a new venture for other beings in the solar system that build snowman type objects ? Quote
Alan France Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 One small step but a gigantic leap for a nation and another challenge for NASA. Quote

Wilfman Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Does anyone claim to own the moon? If China are going to build a station on the moon will they have to apply for permission and will it be leasehold with rent payable? Quote
Thrustyjust Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Quick Google Mr Wilf and this means I own it and you Can you own a piece of the moon? In 1967 the U.S. and the Soviet Union negotiated the Outer Space Treaty, which states that no nation can own a piece of the moon or an asteroid. ... But anyone can buy a deed to land on the moon right now. The Lunar Registry ("Earth's leading lunar real-estate agency") sells such deeds on its website for about $20 an acre. 1 Quote
jeff oakley Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 This shows that there are some bigger things to worry about than Brexit. China has said it intends for Taiwan to be reunited with China by force if necessary. They are aligned with NK and due to Western policies Russia as well, not exactly stable leaderships there. Will they attack anyone other than Taiwan, unlikely but they are determined to be the number 1 super power, so whilst the West is busy discussing having third genders on a passport or Megan Markle, they are busy educating their people, building infrastructures and expanding their armed forces at a pace that the west can only dream of, all funded by the West buying cheaper goods made in China. The even worse bit is we are still giving aid to help them. China has the capabilities and will to do what they want, hopefully they will not provoke action as there would be no winners if anything kicks off in the South China Seas. To get anything on the Moon is an achievement, to the far side is even greater Quote

The article says: The Chinese moon landing shows the emerging superpower is a growing threat to Britain and the world, say military experts and British government sources. As far as I can see there is provenance to this. The Telegraph reported this back in April but didn't cite Government sources. It was a release from China. So it may not be fake news but their source and the lateness of reporting to stand some scrutiny... Quote
