Quinten Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Anyone else suffering form a 6-7s delay each time the Unread Content button is used? Initially I thought it was my network connection, but it does it everywhere, and with different browsers. Having the developer console open and it takes consistently long just to do that particular url ( https://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/discover/unread/ ). Once it gets past that it's flying, so no complaints there... Quote
Andy Banks Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Not experiencing the same here at the mo. Is it still happening? Quote
Quinten Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 Well, that's me stuffed then. Just had an inkling and switched off the ad-block, but made no difference. Quote
Quinten Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 Tried some different VPN connections which made no difference, and neither switching between Chrome and Safari. Any of the other Activity Streams are normal, it is just Unread which is the odd one out Quote
Quinten Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 Have found a work around. If I set the Time Period to 30 days it is as quick as you'd expect it. As soon as I set it to 31 days, it is slow as above. Some setting in the forum software to do something different when that Time Period is longer than 30 days? Quote

Less than 30 days is x000 posts. More than 30 is x000,000,000 posts! 1 Quote
Quinten Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 I'm not sure I understand your maths, but if the default Unread Content button uses a Time Period of 365 days, then I would imagine more members have the same issue? What do you have yours set at? And what if you set it to 365 (or 31)? Quote
Kingster Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 My maths was just conjecture. Putting over a concept. I’m sure it caches stuff to do with searches. But still more time equates to a bigger search pool. I can look at it at some point but as it’s not mission critical it’s low in my list Quote
Kingster Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Odd. Tried a few options for my feed and no matter what I set it to it all worked speedily. Might be something about your own settings Q? Quote
Quinten Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 No idea what setting influences this and is global to browsers. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time I'm "special" Quote
DavidR Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 You've prompted me to change my setting from 365 days to 7 days, but either way no delay. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I have mine on the longest date range normally, but have tried long and short with no difference, all give fairly rapid returns. Quote
Quinten Posted October 11, 2018 Author Posted October 11, 2018 Strangely enough the 365 setting worked ok for about 5 minutes earlier this evening, before it relapsed again. Will continue to monitor, but it does look like the issue is at my end... just got to find it! Quote
