Rob55 Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 I have been to the ring before and am planning to go again next year, but this time I might bring the Megabusa with me (on a trailer!). Has anyone lapped the ring before in a Busa and what was it like? I would be worried that the wide open throttle on long sections could be quite sore on the engine and also I am not sure whether the gearing is ideally suited to this type of track? It costs a hell of a lot to take the trailer (two boats from Ireland and then UK) so I don't want to regret it if the Busa isn't particularly suitable. I might be better just taking my M5 instead? M@r]{ Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I go most years, this year we did a DNR track day, fantastic and I’d really recommend one over a normal public day (what I’ve always did previously) Anyway, I took my F-Type, multiple times I was above 130mph. In fact down the straight I breached 170mph. I should imagine in the Busa you will spend a lot of time very high up the Rev range with you foot flat down. If you’re ok with that i’m sure you’ll really enjoy it. How well do you know the Ring? Quote

I would say the first 3 miles I am Pretty confident and after that I have a lot of learning to do I don’t think bouncing off the limiter is what I am after tbh.! I watched a vid of someone and they were pulling about 126 at the fastest point though it was a public day so they didn’t get the full run at the final straight. But they did spent long enough times at high revs Quote
TAFKARM Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 If your not on a TF day you could always (sacrilege!) back off a bit on the long flat out sections, but for me, for TF, I'd take the M5. Going to the hassle of trailering the Westie there I'd feel under a lot of pressure to do as many laps as possible...(one last lap syndrome...) 1 Quote

My mate said he did a lot of top end driving in the turbo busa at around 120 but didn’t look at speedo much as most of his attention on the straights was given to rear mirrors for anything quick coming up. Said it was really busy. He’d use the M5 to tow it as that gets the best of both worlds with options in arrival Said he’d do it again in a Westy but book a track day rather than a public one. Quote

It’s a lot of money yes, but you get so many more laps in, the standard of driving is so much better (track days rules) and it’s less busy. I’ll never do a public day again Quote
Rob55 Posted September 30, 2018 Author Posted September 30, 2018 Yeah I do plan on towing with the M5, it has a factory fitted removable towbar lol extremely rare option. She’s a 2000 E39 with a full restoration just done, it’s a car that will hold its value and is knocking on for 19 years old and 100k miles do not ideal for heavy lapping either. 100% agree, trackday is the way forward. Perhaps do that in the Westie and then a few tourist laps in the subsequent days in the M5. But just want to be sure I won’t regret the huge extra cost in trailering the Busa along with me Quote
Snappy Posted September 30, 2018 Posted September 30, 2018 I don't think I would trailer!! If your on 13 inch wheels could you use some 15 inch to bring the gearing up a tad! So many people drive the motorway all the way there, a massive waste in my opinion. You may as well have fun in the vehicle your going to use, we take a little longer but make the journey fun, head for the northern French border and towards Luxemburg then up the mossel valley to were we last stayed Cocham. Hence the fun starts once off the ferry, fun getting there and fun at the ring etc. Been to the ring a few times on bikes! Best research you can do, look at each day on there calendar its not open as much as you think! If you can find a week day when the track opens at 1.30pm I have always found this to be less busy, we once arrived to find less than 10 cars there, we let them all storm off and gave them 5 mins before we went out, literally on our own. Friday nights and the weekend can be packed but its still fun, if you surrounded by cars back off to your in an empty spot and carry on. On closed days you can do your research to see who is running an event etc we once booked with a bmw bikes only track day and they let us on even though we didn't have bmws, for the number of laps it was cheaper than a public day as well. oh and its not a race..
