Alan Cutler (Adge) - Dorset AO Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 (edited) Tied up with "things" on the sunny days this week! No plans for Friday, but grey start to the day. Sun appeared 3ish, so jump in the Westfield and we had a nice run down to Lyme Regis. Walk along The Cobb and an ice cream for tea, what more could you want. Nice run home as the sun was setting. Wall to wall sunshine this morning, so after walking the dogs, decided on another Westie trip to Dorset, this time to the village of Pallington east of Dorchester. Our destination was a place called "Sculpture by the Lakes" which friends had recommended. Fascinating place, a number of sculptures, mostly cast bronze in a lovely setting around, and in some lakes. Guy called Simon Gudgeon is the artist, his wife has created the gardens and lake settings, very creative couple. Very relaxed place, got its own cafe with good food and drink, they encourage visitors to relax and take their time wandering around. A few photos of some of the sculptures. Interesting place to visit, I'm not exactly an "arty" sort of person, but I enjoyed it, and was fascinated trying to work out how the sculptures were made. They're hollow, thin wall bronze, and think lost wax casting must feature in the way the sections are made. Can recommend this as a pleasant place to spend a relaxing rew hours if you happen to be in the area. Rounded off the day with a gentle chug home to Somerset.
