windy Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 Just thought you might like to see what I'm up to over the winter & brighten up your screens with some pictures of a rally car undergoing some mods. Escort is now stripped & hung on a spit. Makes it easy to work on and do any work on the underneath without having to lie on one's back. The idea is that the car shell can rotate about its axis to any position and then locked in place by means of a drum brake at one end. The old, not so strong english axle is now sold and being replaced with a stronger atlas axle from a Capri. The axle is better located with a Watts likage rather that the weaker panhard rod. The rod tower was breaking away from the floor of my car and badly cracking it. Obviously too weak for my sideways driving! The watts links locate on two towers hence the need to fabricate them from steel & weld them into place. Extra clearance is required under the floor for the bigger diff housing so this has been moved up as well. The floor has been repaired where it had cracked also. Next job is to add some wide arches to accomodate the wider rear track & increase the width of the tunnel. Quote
