May I ask @Craigieboy, why does it have to be your last run of the year?

They are stunning photo's that you keep treating us to, thank you

Thank you, I am blessed with some fantastic scenery up here, if not the skills to fully capture them.

Mot expires on Saturday, Tax expires at end of month and of course the weather is turning cold and the roads will be covered in salt. I had always taken my Mx5's off the road during winter for obvious reasons 😆 and was always going to do the same with the Westy. Can't complain, I've put some miles on it and had some fantastic drives. I had a couple of moments today on damp roads and glad I was going relatively slow, so I think it's best to quit whilst I'm ahead.

This morning Kent monthly meet. Three of us braved the storm in the cars, many arrived in the tin tops for a nice breaky

The tax runs out today, should I tax or SORN?

Tax, definitely.

Going out for a blat on an occasional fine day is more fun than doing a winter lay-up.

Recently I've been talking the pay monthly option.  I know that it's not the most economical option but it seems to hurt less.

Just taxed mine, life is short and £345 is a small amount of money in the grand scheme of things. This was last Thursday at Ladybower.

I too keep mine taxed, just on the off chance of getting that 30minute blat should the weather be good.

Wish I would had a chance for such doubts (to tax or not to tax) . Here in Poland and I think all EU car must be taxed - insured all year. No possibility to #sorn . No matter if its going rebuilding , not driving on roads etc. Insurance companies lobby did they job on goverments... 😞

Btw what are there in UK possibile consequences if one is catched driving on public road with no insured car ?

It's actually car tax, not insurance.  When the car's not on the road it doesn't need taxed.  At one time you could just let it lapse but now you have to actually tell the authorities (using sorn) that is not on the road (for free).  You can now get fined and/or license penalty points for not having either paid your tax on a vehicle or sorned it.

And fined/points for being on the road when sorned too.

You need to insure your car when on the road too, but it's up to you if you insure it when not on the road.

Again, a fine and/or points if you get caught.

And you will get caught, as the police know the tax and insurance state of your car, and it's safety test (MOT) status too, in their databases. And their cameras will spot you.  It doesn't even need the involvement of a human.

I've done it, taxed for another year. MOT before Christmas now.

And if caught by an actual police officer, rather than an automated camera, driving on the road with no tax and/or no insurance, your car can be seized on the spot and taken to the police pound.

If your car gets spotted with no tax parked in a public place, including the public road, outside your own property. It can be clamped or towed as well.

Indeed - the DVLA have vans filled with clamps and fitted with ANPR cameras, and their sole function is to drive around searching for prey.
