Hill Climb School

Evening all.

I wanted to post in this section so it gets viewed by those of you who have never done a track day or hill climb and like me, we're probably a bit intimidated by the thought of coming up against skilled drivers in powerful cars, or perhaps just idiots hooning around being a danger to not only themselves but others....

Well I had the pleasure of attending Gurston Down on Tuesday, and I have to say that if any of you can do a hill climb school day in your area, then please give it a go.....it is FANTASTIC.....

The instruction is first class, and the format is brilliant. Meet up and get issued with a helmet. You use your own car by the way! Then there is the brief from the instructors offering guidance on driving the course, and then clothing and car preparation if you wanted to take up the sport. You then walk the hill with the instructors in groups, before having two convoy runs. Then it's eight runs going as fast as you want. Emphasis is on driving lines and technique, so you can drive at a pace you are comfortable with.

There were a wide range of cars from fully caged hill climb cars, a couple of westfields inc mine, three caterhams, two ferraris, a Porsche turbo, a gt3, an f type, a focus rs, lotus élan, classic Mini cooper s and a Honda CR-V driven by a pensioner on her second visit there who loved it.

a wide range of petrol heads and a great experience with a lovely lunch thrown in. Got there at 8am and left at 4.30 pm with a massive smile on my face.

do yourselves a favour and have a look at one!

Done Gurston school in both my previous Westies and had great fun. Was exhausting though , trying to absorb information and put it into practice. Deer Leap was never going to be an issue though :d. Worth it in spades for a great day and I also love the different cars and the friendly feel of everyone there. We even had a certain Richard Smith from Westfield there on one visit doing the school day.
