GaryFoster
I've just noticed this on their website, 192Bhp out of the box. When I phoned up to place my order for my Xe powered kit (just before Xmas) I wasn't told anything about a Duratec engine option, only the Zetecs. I was looking to build a car engined track car with 200ish Bhp. I am now wondering if I should have waited and ordered the Duratec (well, if Westfield had actually told me they were about to release a new model - w**kers). Westfieldman
How far on are you as it is more than likely it's just mounts and a hole on the other side other than the engine and bellhousing etc. Paul.
GaryFoster
Far too late for me, £6000 already spent with SBD, engine in. In fact, just about to book the SVA. It's annoying, I may have been able to do a 200Bhp Duratec (and thus a fairly new engine, not a 10 year old one) for the same(ish) price as my Xe. Guess it doesn't make much difference, I don't know whether the Duratec would be better than an Xe (lighter ?) Gary
hilux
Stick with VX Duratec unproved and probably chuffing expensive if you pop the engine or want to improve it. Dont forget the VX has been out a long time, is a proven engine and has a whole host of suppliers and specialists. Personal opinion of course................. Blatman
I think you're being a bit hard on the factory myself. Sure they had a Duratec car in developement when you placed your order, BUT if it wasn't ready, and they weren't prepared to make a guess as to it's readiness, how would you have felt that, having laid out a deposit, the delivery date kept getting pushed back 'cos of the need for further developement to take place? You'd be saying something like............. bl**** Westfield...........placed an orer before Christmas........no delivery date yet........mutter.......mumble....etc...... Besides, a little bit of research (see the 4th post, by Moomin) on your part, and it may have been a different story........... See also the 1st post on page 4 of this thread, which was waaaaaaay back in June. I know I tell people to search a lot, but there are very good reasons why I do.......... GaryFoster
Blatman Had I been availed of the facts, I could have taken the decision myself - this is what I'm annoyed about. As it was the decision was taken for me by Westfield by not telling me of this new car - not an inkling, nothing nada. I've been in contact with them for 3/4 months. Westfield have been producing the Zetec cars for years, AFAI Knew, the engines are still available - why would I think they were going to replace it it never crossed my mind that a Zetec replacement was iminent. Mark Stanton
Gary I can sympathise with your plight and option availability - and yes Westfield were in development stage and probably to some extent will be for sometime yet - such is the nature of kit cars However by not telling me of this new car - not an inkling, nothing nada If you had undertaken a search and viewed this boardroom - you would have heard of the Duratec being in development - which may have given you the information required Perhaps not the answer you need right now but don't be disappointed with your choice of VX - its a superb unit with loads of potential and more that adequate for use in a Westfield for many years to come
GaryFoster
Well it's too late now isn't it. Hopefully the prices of the Duratech ancillaries (dry sump, TB's etc etc blah blah) will be massively expensive. This would chear me up somewhat Am very vary happy with everything I've bought from SBD in any case - can't fault the quality, just hope I get the results. Mike H
That's a shame, esp. as I've known about the Duratec car for months and months. At least with the Vx you won't need to stuff a cat up your exhaust for SVA like you would with a nearly new Duratec. Mike
Clint
For anyone interested in the development of the Duratec please visit our web site @ www.duratecperformance.co.uk hopefully it will emerge as the home of Duratec tuning in the UK we already have many of the tuners associated with tuning this engine looking at the site. Mark Williamson
I visited the factory yesterday and they still have a 'mule' with a Duratec under development! It is completely alloy, so will be lighter than most older engines and similar to the K series. Allegedly it is putting out 192Bhp but with high fuel consumption, at the moment. It looks a neat installation, but I guess Gary did not need to know that? Cheers, Mark.
