Clarification of Technical Specification of Road Going/Road Based Cars 2018

 

In addition to the MSA requirements in Section J, S10, S112 and S123 the Speed Series Committee wish to clarify the technical specification requirements for cars running in classes A, B, C, D, E, F which are essentially Road based cars. In the spirit of our Regulations and in order to maintain parity of car specifications the following will apply.

  

1. Classes A and B must be able to produce proof of current UK road tax, insurance and MOT (if age require it).

2. Cars is Classes C, D, E, F and must have either the following road tax, insurance and MOT or alternately a vehicle passport.

3. All cars must have a front and rear number plate (either a plate or stick on type)

4. All cars must be fitted with front facing headlamps, taillights, and indicators

5. All cars must be fitted with a suitable passenger seat (grp or foam cushions etc.) as well as seatbelts and they should be capable of safely carrying a passenger

Sorry but Steve and I will have to withdraw from the championship for this year then as although our car is road legal and has an MOT, but due to work commitments we will be unable to fit lights for this year.

Looks ok to me as long as you have belts on the passenger side as well

Could you pass an MOT with that type of thin memory foam cushion??? It looks like a kids booster made to fit on top of a normal seat. Would you be happy to blast around a track or the roads with your bum sat on that?????? I think you would end up black and blue.

If the answer is no then its inadequate IMHO

IMO i dont think it would pass an mot - also other clauses that the blue book states which MAY also be relevant are below ---- but if in doubt then ask a scrute..... however, if you are really that desperate to save the weight then go on a diet ... its the cheapest weight saving option by far

Basically seats have to be secure for the mot . The full manual is available online . Securing methods aren't specified so down to discretion of tester , the question your  tester would need to answer is how secure also bear in mind a 4pt+ seat belt holds driver or passenger sandwiching seat between occupant and body . All subjective really .

Why not Just MOT it with no passenger seat . Then stick that one in for competition
