Lyonspride Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 I think Westfield ownership may have something to do with this....... On Facebook recently I clocked an ad for the Ford Mustang, it reads "Build it, drive it, own it" (where I feel it should read "spec it, drive it, lease it") I just can't take that stuff seriously, your not building a car at all, your specifying which shiny bits you want added to it!! It all reminds me of like that program on TV where people buy homes at auction, later the presenter asks them "what have you done to the property" , the owner squirms a bit and then proudly announces "I project managed everything", in other words "I didn't do anything, I just stood around all day getting in the way and p*ssing off the builders". This kind of advertising just puts me right off, it makes you wonder who they think their target market actually is!?!? The "prestige" makes will market from the angle of building to your specifications, as if to say "you don't need to lift a finger", so Ford clearly aren't aiming for that market. Quote
DonPeffers Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 I guess many like to feel their car is unique and car makers are now quoting vast numbers of options, which can greatly increase the vehicle cost. I recall in the 70s Ford offered 27 options on the Escort and British Leyland (40% of UK car market then) had hardly any on their models; indeed you had to go upmarket to specify cloth instead of vinyl seats. We know who won the sales battle. A combination of incompetent management and bolshy unions meant little change at BL and ultimate decline. Quote
