Honda CRV

The missuss is thinking of getting a new car & has mentioned she quite fancies a Honda CRV.

As I've just brought a trailer & am lacking a tow bar on my car (BMW want £890+VAT to do the job :0  :arse:  :durr: ) i'm encoraging this line of thought.

It sounds to me like it would make a good tow car although they seem not to do them in Deisel, they all seem to come with 2.0L petrol engines.

Any thoughts on their towing abilities?

Andy how you doing dude, happy with the bm wheels ?. with reference to CRV's a mate at work has one which is 2 years old and he tows his Robin hood occasionally and a four wheeler caravan but not at the same time i might add, he says it tows well and alot better than the pug 406 diesel he had before it, he does alot of towing as he is a sad individuel who goes away most weekends from easter to october in the caravan.and holds us lot up when out for a blat  :(  :(  :(

They'd probably be OK, although they might be a tad thirsty.

Wifey was looking at them over here in the US but, IMO, it's an over-priced Accord with big ground clearance.  Decent boot space though.

Hi neo

Wheels look    thanks, there a bit dirty at the moment (bit likr the missuss :D ) however is going in for a service tomorrow (the car not the missuss) so they normally valet the car then (its the only time it gets a good clean  )

Nick, if she gets a 4x4, i can get a little sporty number when the BMW goes back. I was thinking of a Honda Prelude 2.2Vtec or may be an old 911   :xmas:

Anyone know what a Lexus IS200 would be as a tow car?

Wife had a CRV for 4 years and it never went wrong not even battery or exhaust.

I used it a lot for towing and pulled all sorts of trailer with it. They have a good reputation for towing and I certainly agree. Even with the big Lynton trailer and a large car on board it never struggled.

Fuel consumption was never brilliant as it just managed 30 without a trailer and 25 to 28 with, so I guess the CRV frontal area was most to blame.

With worn tyres and the automatic 4wd engagement front wheel traction was broken pulling out from junctions, the 4 wd drive would cut in but not before a bit of torquer steer and that would be about my only grumble.

It was probable the best tow car we had and the comparison was Saab Turbo, Rav 4 diesel, Golf PDI. Occasionaly we borrowed the Boss's Range Rover Diesel and I know which I would use for towing and it wasn't the RR.

£890 for a tow bar from BMW....

Hmm did you ask Witter or Brinks.

I reckon you'd get a tow bar fitted for under £300 from them

All the Car manufacturers rip you off for towbars.

If you can afford a BM you can afford £890 for a tow bar is their thinking

A neighbour with a new S'Class was asked for over £1500 quid+VAT for a removable towbar by Merc.  He told them were to stuff it and got one for about 1/3rd of the price by either Witter or Brinks. - and with the EEC regulations on towbars a new "copy" is every bit as good as the "original" .

I had a towbar fitted when I ordered my CoCar - and that was a Witter one arranged by the Renault dealer themselves as it was 1/2 price in comparison.....

So whichever car you get a towbar on - get at least 3 quotes

Witter

Brinks

Original fitment

Thanks for the advice. :t-up:

The BMW is a lease car with only 12 months left so not realy worth putting a tow bar on, especially if i can perswade(spelling) her-in-doors to get a 4x4. :D
