S2T Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 I wonder if someone can explain what the difference is between road based and non road going under the S12 umbrella Quote
Paul Morcom Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 MSA have ruled out List C tyres from Road Going classes but are legal to use on the road and will pass an MOTC. Many WSCC owners and competitors use these tyres for road and competition but under MSA rules it immediately puts you into Modified Specialist Production Cars category and have to meet S12 of the Blue Book. SSOT wanted to keep a class for road legal class that used List 1C tyres; hence WSCC Classes C, D, E and F but as the Speed Series is regulated by the MSA we are not able to call them Road Going cars. These are "road based" Cars that were specific for competition and used slicks (WSCC Classes G and H) are also bound by MSA Blue Book Modified Specialist Production Cars S12 - these are non road going So the real difference is that a WSCC "road based" (not an MSA term) is a car fit for the road (i.e. could pass on motc, could be taxed and insured for the road and competes in that state) and a non-road going is a car that is not road legal (i.e. slicks, could not pass an motc, etc.). To add to the difference if a J12 Road Based car is used on the road and has MOTC, Tax and Insurance then strictly speaking it does not have to have an MSA Logbook/Vehicle Passport to compete in MSA regulated events. However some scrutineers do not understand this and it is probably wise to have an MSA Vehicle Passport. 1 Quote
Rogers79 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 The only issue I’ve encountered with this running with class E is, running list 1b tyres and being able to run in Road going I can compete against other Road going cars in class and do well on the day. However as target times are based on a 1c Tyre I’ve no chance of scoring well in the wscc championship. If I put list 1c tyres on I’m them deemed modified by msa And event organisers so have little chance against slicks and then only score for a championship but not on the day as I’m against all the big rig Westfields. Tough one for organisers agreed but tough call if wscc is suitable for people who want to be Road going!?! Unless I’ve totally misunderstood the regs Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 You could use list 1B tyres and stay in Road going to avoid the 1C and Slicks guys! On the day anyone wth list 1C tyres HAS to compete against the slick cars but score points for the own Westfield classes Quote
Rogers79 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Yeh but target times for class E are based on list 1c tyres so it’s not competitive for the championship!?! Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 You correct in that if you don't have the car spec for classes A or B then people on list 1B are at a disadvantage....but you can blame the MSA for that! Quote
Rogers79 Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 So why not set target times for list 1b tyres for classes C,D,E,F or am I missing something? Apologies if this is going over old ground but ive been scratching my head all year over it as I’m new to this Quote
Terry Everall Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I think that there would be so few people on 1B tyres (based on previous entries) that it would be wasted effort whilst 1C tyres are still available. All our past records for C,D, E and F have been set on 1C tyres not 1B. We could not have a fair class in C,D,E and F if we had to invent Target Times for cars using 1B tyres. Quote
Rogers79 Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 Disappointed but thanks for explaining Terry. Cheers Jez Quote
